It now appears that BMW is entering the high-end SCOOTER market (and no, I don't mean "scooter" as in a colloquial term for motorcycle). Does this mean that we'll have to wave at the scooteratti, who will now also be fully members of the BMW clan and show up with their scooters at rallies, etc?

It's a better looking effort than the ill fated BMW C1 and is probably very competent but I can't see it catching on. I imagine it won't be cheap.
I'd be more impressed if they came up with a real motorcycle with a small capacity engine.

I agree with Barry but welcome any new BMW owners whatever they are riding. As we age, the smaller capacity bikes will be more coveted, I figure or it may be just me?! How about a 250cc-350cc. adventure dual purpose with all the trimmings so we can continue to do the distances to neat places and not be too scared and weak to take on some mild dirt?
Has to be light but with some punch to cruise comfortably at 60-75, and low enough for all!! So lots of adjustability! And a great gas range!!! The G650GS without any top heaviness and a decent sidestand!

I am with Barry and Sue. I had a love/hate relationship with my old BMW 250 cc, R27. I was so much fun to ride, nimble, light..a perfect in town cycle. But the kick start...damn. Most of the time it was one or two kicks to start. But some times.......one kick turned into thirty. It also needed constant tinkering to keep it running smoothly. I was told by a Dutch rider it needed to be fine tuned after every ride..............He wasn’t far off the mark. If BMW made another small bike that was as light, nimble, as much fun as my old R27.......with electric start; I would buy it in a second. Not too interested in a scooter wheel that will be swallowed up by a pot hole. I think in today’s commuter market a small cycle would do well. Hey, it it has two wheels....three going down the road..... wave. Some day soon they will have electric motors.I think there will be some really cool machines in the future.

Now if they had built a road version of the G 450X that would really have been interesting. I'm not sure if it is still a current model anymore but that thing put out 41HP and had a dry weight of 250lbs. That would be more than quick enough for me.(http://)

They are still in production - one of the more popular new models in our area - the local dealer, Max BMW, had 8-10 of them available for test rides at a local rally this summer. I think that they are a little bit too much dirt-oriented though - needs mode fuel capacity and a MUCH better seat for road use!

I think the idea of a BMW scooter is good -- for some people. I have been trying to get my wife to get a motorcycle for some time. But as she was warming up to the idea, she had to give it up. Due to some injuries, she is not able to swing a leg over a seat on a motorcycle. But she can get a leg through on scooters. And the lower center of gravity on most scooters is a big plus for her. We have looked at some of the japanese scooters, but a BMW option is nice.

I wave at scooters anyway. Some of the bikes I see out in the cruddiest weather are scooters.
