Title: BMW vertical twin balanced like a boxer
Post by: Barry on August 18, 2010, 02:42:58 PM
The BMW F800 twin seems to be a rather ordinary design by usual BMW standards until you look beneath the surface and discover the engine is balanced just like a boxer albeit turned vertical.....

Man! I'm gonna need a honking big skid plate. Or maybe go the car route and mount some chrome 22-inch rims... [smiley=idea2.gif]

Mitsubishi holds the patent for balance shafts? Maybe, but in their engines they are used to balance secondary vibration and run at twice engine speed.Balance shafts in singles and vertical twins are for primary balance.
