Reference: my post on Chit-Chat regarding the R65LS project bike at Bob's
Is anyone familiar with the recently-released film, The Kids Are All Right? To any Airhead owner or fan, the real star of that movie is a gorgeous black R75/5. The bike is a significant part of the plot. Accordingly, there are some great shots of it, both static and in motion.
Certain aspects of the subject matter of TKAAR might make a number of our members uncomfortable, but it has great footage of a gorgeous black Airhead quite similar to ours. Any one of us who sees this film might wear every piece of R65 gear s/he can put on, park our respective rides conspicuously outside the multiplex, and be willing to extol the R65's virtues shamelessly.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Looks very good!

I looked at that trailer. Looks like a good movie. Actually, I've heard about this one. But I will go for now for sure just to see the R75/5. 8-)
Oh, and there is some action of the bike in the trailer too.

This film does come at a poignant time in California news!

The R75/5 in the trailer also appears to be running Mikuni carbs. I don't have any issues with the subject material of the film, but I'm not sure if I'd go to see it just for the R75. Still, it seems to make a bit of a statement about the character development in the film - they didn't just put the actor on a recent model rice-bike or modern H-D, it appears that they tried to think about making the character a bit more unique, with some history to him - so that seems (to me, anyhow) that they've at least tried to do some work on making a good back-story for the characters in the film.
-
I'm excited about the film!
The R75/5 is just icing on the cake, now!

OK, I saw the movie last evening. This is definitely a "Brokeback Mountain" kind of a film. (I haven't seen that one, though.)
If homosexual behavior bothers you - don't see this film.
If the 'F' word (not 'Free', Monte) bothers you - don't see this film.
If you are not into highly dramatic movies - don't see this film.
The /5 was cool, and I got excited every time the beautiful white pinstripes appeared, but it was not often enough to warrant seeing the film just for that. And while /5's have a combination speedometer/tachometer built into the headlight shell, this one seemed to have an additional instrument hanging off of the handlebar/top of the fork. I could not tell if it was a speedometer or a tach, but the size and appearance was about right for one - unfinished, as well - just hanging on there...
I'm glad I went to see it. I wish I had gone before 6 and saved $2.
I cried (not about the $2, Monte. Although I had a good laugh when I passed the snack counter. $4 for a small bottle of water!).

Thanks for the movie critique, Rob !
I trust your judgement better than that of the syndicated movie reviewers. I have no issues with homosexuals - I have several long time friends who happen to be gay - but I don't need to spend $10 per ticket to see some sort of dramatic, feel-good movie about it either.
Mike (who also never watched BrokeBack Mtn).
What we need is some sort of movie like "World's Fastest Indian" (now THAT movie made me teary-eyed), but with a BMW airhead instead!
-
When I was sitting at home last evening, after seeing this film at the same independent/art theater (one of the pluses of big city living) where I saw World's Fastest Indian twice, I thought "I need to get a copy of that on DVD." It's been too long! WFI is a GREAT movie!
-
Oh, and Mike - this is anything BUT a "feel-good" movie. While there are several good laughs (mostly at the expense of straights), it is a very complex and real-life story, with none of the fairy-tale endings that come with most Hollywood movies.
Refreshing.
I guess the "feel-good" comes from seeing people on the screen with lives just as screwed up as some of us have. Oh well.

How about a movie about this lady? :D

Anka-Eve Goldmann
Quote: I don't think Ms. Goldmann was ever sponsored or employed by the BMW factory, but she was clearly given priority when purchasing one of the first half-dozen BMW R69S models in 1960; her new machine has the ultra-rare rearview mirror mounted above the cylinder head. The R69S had 42hp, was capable of 110mph, and made a superb and reliable sports-touring machine.
