Title: My AF moment, prompted by a conundrum
Post by: Altritter on August 04, 2010, 02:51:53 PM
Reference: my Chit-Chat topic early today, "R65LS Project Bike at Bob's"

Question: Were R65/R65LS serial numbers sequential, irrespective of the sub-model?

Facts:

1.  My 1981 R65 (early model year, manufactured October 1980) is SN 6385209

2.  The Project bike in question, purportedly a 1983 LS, has engine S/N 6370395 and frame S/N 6370286 (or 288, I can't be certain). (See photos on the dealer link, plus dealer's comments explaining the S/N discrepancy.)

Conclusion: If R65 and R65LS serial numbers are not mutually sequential, then there is no issue. But if they are, how can this 1983 FrankenBeemer have engine and frame S/Ns that are lower than my 1981's?

Now, for my AF moment: I cannot recall the link, nor can I put my hands upon a hard copy of a list of links, that includes the one containing an interactive database of BMW Motorrad S/Ns whereby punching in a S/N produces the month and year of manufacture.

Can anyone clarify?

Thanks,

John

John,

You can also go to Real OEM and insert your VIN and the corresponding information will be shown.  Be sure you keep clear title for the bike!!

Thanks to all. Funny, I tried realoem last night; must have done something wrong. It was the UK site that I couldn't recall.
