Damn these quakes. 5.4 mag at 4:50pm. Something's in the works on the old planet.

Yep, we even have quakes around here, but most of ours, mild though they have been, have been caused by deep water injection wells. At least you don't have hurricanes in SoCal!

Oh man! You had another one down there? I hadn't heard about this one. I guess they're getting to be too many to make much news anymore.
There have been a few up here by the Geysers that have been big enough for the news, but I haven't felt them where I am. They've only been about 3.0 - 3.5. They get lots of quakes though as it's pretty active in those hills geologically speaking. Plus PG&E has put steam wells in to make electricity and then they put waste water back down the wells to make more steam. Makes me wonder if they'll eventually cool it off doing that.
I think we must be getting close to a big one around here as we haven't had any in awhile. The Loma Prieta was the last big quake that I've felt here.
There was another small one a few years later that was out to the west of here. Ever wonder what you would do if there was an earthquake and you were in the bathroom? ::) That thought came up for me at that time. :o Not much I could do though. It was over before I had a chance to do anything. ;D

Adelaide's had a few quakes lately. Not happy. My house is on a fault line - though according to the Scientist in the link below it doesn't really matter...'course I have no doubt he does NOT live on a fault line.

No worries Aussie. Just mount you house on castors on a concrete slab and the motion of the earth will not be transmitted to your house!
Good luck!
BTW - A couple of years ago I awoke at about 5am with my head bouncing off the head board of my bead. 5.0 earthquake in Atlanta GA!
:o

Yeah - nice thought...with the castors on I could either take off to someplace exotic (kinda reminds me of either a skit from Monty Python (OMG - I just realised...is this MontyR65????) or The Goodies)) or just kinda be gently rocked back to sleep.

Glad you qualified that otherwise I would have been envious.... ::)
