Post by: nhmaf on February 11, 2010, 12:07:45 AM

The BMW RA folks finally announced the time and location for their rally this year - for those of you who can't get out to Redmond, OR perhaps you might be interested in joining me in Vermont?   I'm not an RA member yet, but this is too close to miss, for me anyhow:

The BMW RA National
The Hosting Chartered Club for the 2010 RA National Rally at the Green Mountain Energy Park in Pownal, Vermont is the BMW Motorcycle Owners of Vermont. The Dates for the Rally are July 29-August 1.
This location is also known as the Green Mountain race track that is Located in Pownal, Vt. On U. S. Route 7 between Bennington, Vt. And Williamstown, Mass.

I would love to go, I had a great time riding in VT at the MOA national there in 2006.  But I'm thinking that I'll probably stay closer to home this summer.  The MOA Redmond rally is practially in my backyard, only one state away, so you can see me there (probably hanging out at the vintage display.

Mike, I have to admit that Vermont in August sounds a lot more appealing that Texas in August.  Let me see, 1,707 miles from Bedrock, TX to Pownal, VT; or, 1914 miles from Bedrock to Redmond.  I'd have to choose Vermont if I was going to take the time to make that trip.  Unfortunately Mrs. Phorqs doesn't get that much time away from her duties.

Redmond is in eastern Oregon, and is going to be warm, though you probably wouldn't consider it outrageously hot, probably only the high 80s or low 90s.  But there's a lot of great riding in that area, and there are several great roads that will take you over the Cascades, to the "wet side".

Or, if you miss the Texas heat, you could always visit the OR/ID border and Hell's Canyon.   ;)

We just might consider doing this one.  We went through that area when we did the RA Rally in 1998 (Berkshire Mtn-Greenfield, Mass).  We really enjoyed that trip and I think it would be fun to head that way again.  We'll have to start making plans.  It would be great to meet up with you Mike since we missed you last summer.

(I even have a pocket trumpet now that I just might be able to sneak into the gear and we could have a jam session!)  [smiley=beatnik.gif]

A reminder to all that I have the official R65 dot org flag slash pillowcase. Antone with at least one R65 going to any event, PM me and I'll send it out to ya. May need to consider a second, bigger flag before long.   Monte

I am interested -- very interested.  The one problem is that my anniversary is that weekend.  If only I can get permission from "Ground Control" to take off . . . . .

If it helps at all, my wedding anniversary is Aug 4, and my wife isn't much into the bike rally thing either.  But, she knows that I've gotta enjoy my hobbies when the opportunity arises - I just have to be prepared to make an even bigger payoff a few days later - sorta like credit cards... :D

Aida -  it would be great to meet you guys!  I expect Sue will likely be way out west then, but ya never know!   I likely won't have space to put even my alto sax on the bike unless I end up with a sidecar rig by then, but I've been looking at the "Xaphoon" pocket saxophones for sale on ebay - might be a good thing to have for rallies, and camping/hiking... we'll just need someone to bring one of those backpack guitars and some folks to bang on trash cans - though I expect that they'll have some "official" bands booked for the rally.

Hmm I like the idea.  It's close enough for Sue to come down from up north.

So for me - I'm looking at it.

Who has got the FLAG?

I'm looking at the dates now and am strongly considering this event as a riding destination.
