But do I have to lube any splines? Is there a dratted final drive boot to be replaced. Do I have to learn German in order to maintain this thing?

Can't access the site at work, but is it a 'streamliner' type enclosed 2 wheel vehicle with 'automatic' outriggers, powered by a 1200 cc BMW water cooled engine ?
I believe it was Peraves Ecomobile .

....and at over 1000lbs dry weight I hope we are not also expected to put it on a centre stand to stop oil running down the bores.

You would have the same maintenance that would be required on a BMW K1200 bike .
There's a turbo charged version, and top speed is 195 + mph .
They had one US distributor, Dan Whitfield, in Greensboro, North Carolina .
US delivered price was about $90-95,000 .
The vehicle has automatic 'outriggers' that deploy at low speeds, around 10-15 mph .
It 'steadies' the vehicle while it's not moving .

I'll wait for the Japanese version.

The Ecomobile is really something else. When I rode around the Nuerburgring a dozen years ago at a BMW club event, they had a group of these as well. Looked like Flash Gordon!
Peraves is working on an entirely new design IC motor, the Superball. They have a very interesting video on their website. They say they have a prototype in a scooter. Only 3 moving parts.
