I've been thinkin' about a putt-putt BMW for a while now. . .and I finally got to ride a ratted out 1984. It has cemented my desire for one, although that particular one is a no go. I look forward to exploring this site! Wish me luck in my quest!

Dear Lustful... Some of the best Airheads have begun their second or third lives as "no-go's". My first R65 was a semi-turd but it's now a reliable beauty.

Welcome aboard R65LUST, we have a quite knowledgeable member not too far from you .
He's Ed Miller in Falls City,OR, about 20 miles or so west/southwest of Salem,OR.
Be patient, and keep an eye on Craigslist, these bikes come up every so often, and with the general economic climate, not even to mention the cold weather now, you may just get a great deal on a bike .
We have a member here, that has his silver '82 LS up for sale, last entry he dropped the price to $1800 for R65 members, he located in the Tacoma metro area, only about 250 mile drive .
If interested, go the the Trading Post section, should be the fourth entry, members name is flying_finn .

Thanks Bob. Done. Regarding the "no go" bike. I want it. In spite of the fact that has a Harley seat. But it also leaks oil. It leaks fuel. It died on me and wouldn't start when I rode it. It has almost no front braking, is missing tach., speedo., turn signals etc.... In short, it is an awesome cafe project, but one requiring you to undo the previous owner's mods to do over correctly. For example, the gear shift broke at some point, and he cobbled one on from some other bike. The ergos are all off. Did he modify the mount? Can I buy an original part and "restore" it? Or does the whole mount need to be redone now? Too many potentially very frustrating questions for too much money.

Welcome aboard, and hopefully you can find a better bike than the one you described. There's an OVM member who goes to their meetings in Eugene once a month, who rides a brown R65. I didn't really get a chance to talk to him the only time I made it down there.
A 1984 is a nice year, but that one you rode would have to be almost free before I would buy it. Mine wasn't running when I bought it for$500 but it didn't take much to get it going. Good luck in your search.

Never spilled a drop......had a wardrobe malfunction going into the bend "G" force broke a strap on my backpack hey ho almost lost it.

Yes Ed. Unfortunately, it "has all factory parts" except the seat, exhausts, instruments, center stand, side stand, gear shift, etc.. Somewhat misrepresented. It was barfing fuel, so I think it has some float issues at least. It ran ok for a while, but was LOUD with the aftermarket cans. I think if he was going to give it to me I would go for it, but it would require exponentially more work to make it into something I wasn't ashamed of. Too bad.
I do like the LS MrRiden. We shall see.
