Title: Tire Bead Balancers
Post by: razz2234 on December 19, 2009, 12:56:25 PM
Has anyone tried those tire bead balancers? Just wondered how they work and if they work in a tubed tire.
Anyone have any recommendations or criticism on these?

Raz,
Personally, I have no experience with the beads. I presume we're talking about Dynabeads.  But, my main riding partner has been using them religiously with no problems in his tubes for years. I've never felt comfortable with goo or anything foreign in my tubes - but have no scientific or practical proof of why other than just not being comfortable with it. Here's a very convincing video of the Dynabeads and there's lots of information on the web. If you ever try them, please post you're findings and opinions on the forum for us.

The simple fact that many tire manufacturers will not honor their warranty if there is evidence of beads or other foreign objects inside the tire is enough for me to avoid using them.   I am also not very convinced of their effectiveness from a scientific perspective, but as I am not interested in voiding the warranty on any of my bike tires, I'm not likely to try them anytime soon.

One of the longest and most inflammatory threads on the BMWMOA forum was started by this discussion of dynabeads a year or two ago..
