OK here goes: My first and only love from 1972-1977, a 150 ccm two-stroke MZ I used for commuting in my university days. It was a very good ride and it was cheap. In 1977 I exchanged it for a new bicycle, which lasted for 20 years and was stolen three times, but that is another story.

greetings from a wet, grey and rainy north

!! Notice the Earles front forks!!

I nearly bought a new MZ 150 back in the early seventies. They had a good reputation for simple solid engineering if not for style.

This is what I bought instead as my first bike. Notice the left foot kick start. Must have been an Italian thing, Moto Morini did the same on their 350 V twin (http://)

This 1972 Honda CB450 was actually the second bike I ever owned (my first, a brand new Suzuki 90 Honcho, was totaled one month after I got it).  I bought it new for $1,150 and kept it for about 4 years before selling it.  Smooth as silk engine and shifter, it was a blast to ride!  To this day, I regret ever selling it.

This was my first motorcycle bought as a 60th birthday present to myself. It was a love hate relationship. It was a beautiful cycle..light, quick, nimble...18 hp would let you cruise at 60..with no headwind. Like all old airheads...it needed constant tinkering to keep it starting on the first or second kick. It was easy to flood and one kick became 60 kicks. It needed to be fine tuned after every ride or change of the weather. But I did love that like bike....it was so sweet to ride. I sold it when I bought it’s big sister.............my R65. Thank God for electric start.

You couldn't trust either - they are from opposite ends of the honesty scale.
