Found this on the Web and thought you guys would find it interesting. The Zundapp KS750 was a close copy of the BMW R75 built for the Wehrmacht...they were 3 wheelers with both rear wheels driving.

Hey Lou...the article says the engine and gearbox were hit by a mortar or shell. The gearbox was found 20 meters away, so it must've been a helluva blast.

In about 1953, as a kid visiting the area, I spent a week or two playing on the cliffs in Normandy (while my parents were involved in 'loftier matters')... Area was honeycombed with trenches which joined the German bunkers, some of which still had guns sticking out of them. I was obviously fascinated, but my parents forbade me to go into the bunkers, and I obeyed-- but spent a lot of time prowling the network of trenches.

It says in the text, that it looked like the bike was near a mortar shell impact, and the engine and transmission was found 20 feet or so from the frame .
