Title: Anyone familiar with turbocharging an R65?
Post by: alexznam357 on October 28, 2009, 10:48:15 PM
Found this on the web and am very intrigued by it. No information on who owns this bike or how the turbo mod was done. Bet this setup would put a heck of a smile on your face!

These guys probably made the turbo kit...most likely a modified R100 set-up.

Turbo kits for airheads used to be available through Luftmeister.  But, that company no longer exists, and it appears taht the RB Racing guys are now primarily focued on performance kits for H-D twins and the later model BMW K bikes, mostly.

They are fairly rare, and from what I heard, not especially easy to setup properly.

My only experience with a turbocharged bike was a 1983 Yamaha XJ650 turbo - a buddy of mine was a mechanic at the Yamaha dealer.   That bike could get scary fast in a hurry at the time - of course with only an 85 MPH speedo mandated by the government, as soon as it was quickly pegged, we had no idea how fast we were actually going.   With some improvements to the suspension, that would be a really nice bike now - a pity that it was too complex-seeming to sell well.

It would be a blast to transplant an R100 motor into an R65 and then turbocharge it...
