Title: Ride rained out?
Post by: montmil on October 12, 2009, 04:40:05 PM
What passes for Fall in North Texas is our rainy season. The big damp usually lasts about six weeks and then we slip into our Gray Winter. Gray ground, gray trees and cold, gray skies... Ugh. What's a fella to do?

Some time back, I downloaded the journal archives of The BMW Club of the British Isles and Republic of Ireland. What a fantastic package this is. From the 1950's into the 2000's and still growing.

Early issues are so charmingly British in style. Likely produced on a manual typewriter, pasted up with original artwork and a few photos. Later years show a great advance in the Club's publication skills with interesting technical and travel articles accompanied by color photography.

Download these treasures now. And when the snow is up to the window sills, warm up a hot toddy and enjoy reading a few issues. Our Aussie and down under brethren may crack a cold one and get out of the heat. Be sure to read some of the advertisements and compare prices from then to now. You'll get a kick for sure.

Phil Hawksley's devotion is amongst the greatest, I think.

Thanks for this link!

I downloaded everything from 1978 to date some time ago and have them stored in year folders. There are also indexes available to help you search for stuff. Its interesting to read what they thought of your bike when it was new. Never thought to look at the earlier ones though, I'll give it try.
