Title: Is this the Origonal Toolkit?
Post by: Lucky_Lou on September 02, 2009, 03:05:17 PM
I have what i believe to be the original tool kit and first aid kit for the bike, the first aid kit has BMW stamped all over it and the tool kit is made by Heyco (W.Germany) can anyone pass an opinion on these

Tool kit looks like the one I got with my '81 R65 .

Have you checked the prices that they are asking for the tool kit from BMW, it's shocking, you could buy Snap-On tools for less !!!!!

It looks like my kit.

The R65's in the USA didn't come with the first aid kits, or at least mine didn't (I always suspected my dealer of pocketing them...).

But I did get my shop cloth.

Wow, only $45 for a shop manual.  I may buy that.  I guess I'll check and see what my local guys want for one first.

For some reason I always thought they were 80 or so.

Original tool set, including the "case" with its gray material and yellow trim.   It is identical to the one that came with my 1982 when I bought it new.

Wow, I forgot about the shop cloth.  Still have mine, but haven't pulled it out in ages.

Never saw or heard of a BMW first aid kit in the US.

Considering its 30 years old i would say the tools are better than snap-on and as Barry will confirm the first aid kit comes complete with operating theatre ......they think of everything those BMW guys.

We call it an "OR".

They didn't have to have kits, so they didn't. I recall that every vehicle in Deutschland was legally required to have a first aid kit (at least in the '70s), but I can't recall any state or local requirement here in the US at the time our bikes were manufactured. Thus, I suspect that it wasn't US dealers responsible, but instead BMW Motorrad cutting costs by not including them with export bikes.

My '82 R65 came with the same gray/yellow tool kit.

Saw this motorcycle first aid kit on Ebay in Deutschland...it appears to be a few years newer.
