Title: What're the odds?
Post by: montmil on September 07, 2009, 02:41:27 PM
The Airheads Beemer Club (ABC) has a huge website with more good info than can be absorbed in a week's worth of surfing.

Imagine my surprise when I downloaded the only free sample of their monthly magazine, Airmail / Sept 2005, and there's Larry Chabira with my 1983 R65!

I knew he bought the bike "back east" and had ridden it home to Austin, Texas. Larry had also toured Mexico on the bike with the Ride Texas Magazine posse but... what're the odds the only Airhead available features my most recent two-wheeled acquisition?

This is a kinda backdoor Show Me Your R65 posting. What a surprise.  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]    Monte

So he's the one behind the Mexico Bike's cool (well, to some of us) black and white paint and upholstery treatment?

I believe that's the way Larry bought the bike. It had a shorty fairing on front; white of course with a blue racing stripe that matched the stripe on the white and blue tail piece. The color break on the two-tone seat upholstery sorta matched the angle of the tail piece to the seat. Lotta orange peel and bleed from the quickie racin' stripe masking. Gag me!

Anyway, the bike is back to its original BMW 501 blue with an all black seat. A few more cosmetic and mechanical fixes are waiting. I've been out riding the bike this afternoon... HOT!

Blackie is going to Lake O' the Pines. Maybe take the Mexico Bike next year.

Looking forward to hooking up you, Burt, and your wife. We can take turns keeping Bengt on his "I'm out in public" leash. Theresa usually just stakes him out by the beer cooler...

That's cool.  At first I was afraid that was you on the cover, but I was spared.

I just want to know why somebody from Florida keeps writing articles about tech days there, and signing with my name!  I've never been to Florida.

You talkin' about the cat in the bathtub holding the handlebars? Too funny. A great painting. [smiley=thumbup.gif]

I researched several national, regional and area BMW organizations which required a dues paying membership prior to joining the ABC. My distinct impression is the Airheads do far more than pay simple lip service to owners of vintage airhead BMWs. No names of the others... y'all probably can guess.

Hey, I don't need no stinkin' leash!  Like Billy Joe Shaver (who also gets by Luckenback from time to time) wrote "I got a good Christian raisin' and an 8th grade education, ain't no need of ya'll making fun of me!"

Let's hope that the bean can in the 83 works that weekend.  I will of course be riding the R90 to Lake of the Pines and back.  No trailer hauling for me! ;D

At least you'll have backup if your scooter yells uncle. Both Burt and I are going to enjoy the air conditioning in our cages. 8-)

Oh, gosh, and that is the way Vech saw the bike when he put a tire on it?  Eek!

That is a great story!

Hey, Bengt, whatever happened with Billy Joe's trial?

Have a Shiner on me,

I heard that BJ had his trial but haven't been following the outcome.  Heard on the electric radio a week or so back that he was putting on a show somewhere local and it wasn't at a prison farm.  I'll have to check that out and get back to you.
