Title: Labor Day Holiday Weekend
Post by: Bob_Roller on September 04, 2009, 11:17:23 AM
What do the US members have planned for this three day holiday weekend ?

I've got Monday off, and depending on what the weather does, (forecast is for a significant chance of rain from Friday-Tuesday), is to take the R65 out for an early morning run up into the higher elevations north east of the Phoenix area .

If it's cancelled due to rain, the refurbishment of the '84 LS will commence, finally, with temperatures below 100 F. in the garage this coming week .

I'll be nonchalantly driving by your shop to see if I can catch a glimpse of the  LS  ;D

Well, the trash business does not stop for holidays so I'll be driving my International "packer" Saturday and Monday >:(. Sunday I'll most likely go for a ride around the island.

What?  It's a holiday?  I get every Monday off....that's the motorcycle busniness!  :P  It's just another weekend for me.

Around here, the motorcycles dealerships are opening on the former traditional MC Monday closures. Big Hardley-Ableson dealer, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki dealerships...  New bike sales business has been impacted by the economic downturn. I rode my R65 to the American Eagle HD mega store on the south side of our village and I was the only bike in the lot! I even parked the BMW in the "HD Only" corral. Nobody said a word to me. I was also the only customer -was looking for a map- in the store.

Lot of used motorcycles showing up at work but most are purchased off the DFW CraigsList or from individuals.

Our sales have really picked up.  We have a new owner who is shopping the used bike market and we are selling those faster than the new ones!

Labor Day Weekend Saturday has been, well, laborious.

Up early while it's still cool-ish to replace a 4x fence post my back yard neighbor's daughter backed into with her SUV. Broke it clean off. Sweaty. She didn't even say excuse me, I'm sorry. Too busy on the cell phone. >:(

Cleaned up from that dirty work and went to the shop to straighten out a running issue on the '81 R65. Got that done surprisingly easily.

Spent some additional bench time reassembling a spare Bean Can to carry as a road trip spare.

Second cleanup and now it's channel surfing between AMA road racing, NASCAR and Oklahoma University football. Texas is not on TV due to their lame opponent, LSU-Monroe. Paying the cajuns 800K to come play ball in Austin. Rose Bowl bound Texas, OU or Florida? You pick the number one team this year.

Will see what Sunday and Monday hold after a nice morning on the BMWs. I need to rent some sheep or goats just to eat the back yard low enough to get the mower through.

Plenty of adult malt beverages on hand. [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Happy and safe Labor Day to all.     Monte

Do you use the extra wide Zig-Zag rolling papers for brisket ?

I'll be working all weekend. Saving people from their stupidity.  hahaha

So far today, a lost group of folks up in the mountains (well, they're not really lost, WE know where they are.......), numerous arrests for various things, I lost another one today too.  38 year old guy, tried to do CPR over the phone, he didn't make it.  :-(    Swear I am going to get a T-shirt with the guy in the hooded robe and scythe that says "Angel of Death" and hash marks for every time I do telephonic CPR and they don't make it.  Domestics, fights, drunken fools being stupid in public.

I LOVE my job!

Have no idea what you're talking about, Bob. ;)

Justin, trade ya a sack of sand for a sandwich... hold the grit.

The neighbors had fireworks going off last night.  I never thought of Labor day as a fireworks sort of holiday.  But then my neighbors don't need much of an excuse to pull out the exposives.

Watching racing all afternoon today.   Go Rossi!  Boo on Alex, bummer.

Two bags might get you a sammich...  ;D  Zig-zags don't work very well, Bob, they fall apart when they get soggy!  >:(

Alcohol and explosives, an entertaining spectator sport, best viewed from a safe distance .

I saw Justin's brisket up close & personal.  Definitely no need for zig zags there.  The aroma alone was enough to cause euphoria.  And Monte, I think he meant to say TWO BAGS OF SAND.

Spent a couple of quality hours with Justin on Sunday while he graciously bored out the galled in place main jet venturi from the left carb on the R65.  We got it down to the threads but now it's time to get out the fine needle file and try to get the last little bit out.  That's going to be slow going.

Oh yes, Justin's brisket inspired me so I smoked one of my own.  Five hours on the smoker with a golden brown crust and all night in the oven at 225F to finish it off.  Ah, heavenly!

OK Big Guy, just get your bony bohunkus down here and try a bite and THEN let's talk heresy.  After 5 hours in the pit the smoke had done it's job.  After that, heat is heat. This is maybe the bestest brisket I've ever done!   8-)

Took the R65 for a 300 mile ride this morning, bike ran great, but at 80 mph, I'm getting a significant front wheel vibration .

Looks like the front tire is close to replacement, probably out of balance, so I'll just keep the speeds at 75 mph, until then .

Police were out in force, not often that I get out on a holiday weekend, might be normal, but it put you on the defensive, with all of the mobile photo radar traps on the highways .

Out to the garage, to start working on the '84 LS .

Hey Bob,

Does a radar detector work with the mobile photo radars???

I don't know, I don't have a radar detector, but I'll inquire at work tomorrow, and see if anyone knows for sure .

I stayed home.  I got various projects moved a bit farther.  Friday I brought home my new 4 imperial gallon tank for my Triumph, so now that's on the project list for body work and paint.  Sunday I wasted most of the day trying to get a new email program up and running, as our provider no longer supports Netscape 7.2.  No surprise, as Netscape no longer supports themself!  Boring boring stuff.

Sunday I was cleaning up some parts for my Napco 4 x 4 conversion to go under my '58 Chevy when a friend showed up with his friend on an '83 Shadow 750 that I need to tune up.  I rebuilt the carbs for him some time back, for 5 gallons of home brew, and told him that fine tuning was part of the package.

And I'm still trying to work out an elegant method of attaching my Perry Scott saddle bags to my stock mounting rack on my R65.  I will likely, as usual, settle for something that works, as I want to ride it to a little Airheads rally in Maupin, OR next weekend.  I'm still tempted to ride the Triumph, but the R65 is way more comfortable for a long ride.

Wow!  Same brand, but mine are a slightly different model.  Mine have running lights in the back, which I like.  The article doesn't mention any interference with the shocks, maybe because that's a lwb bike.  I seem to need to space mine out a bit from the frame.

I wasted a long time one day Googling Perry Scott and got zilch, I'm impressed.
