This morning I was riding back from Sydney and although beautiful clear skies there appeared to be pockets of denser air which would really slow the bike down. Though this was probably just a gusty headwind.
It was really annoying so naturally I started crouching down a bit and by chance discovered that the rear pegs have a use other than for pillions! By using them instead of the normal foot rests, it is possible to ride in relative comfort whilst hugging the tank. I sure it would have looks rather hilarious to other motorists but it sure cut through the wind more easily.
Just wondering if anyone else do this.

You bet. Almost mandatory on my naked R65 when the wind gets up. I've lost two of the plastic caps covering the swingarm pivots by using my boot to knock down the rear pages! The new ones from Motobins are a much tighter fit.

The alternative is clip-ons and rear sets......then onloookers will just think you are going faster than you are.

mate tell us the truth, you were going for the land speed record ;)

Maybe ...in R65Land. Gotta watch out for those Ton-Up Boys. [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I use the rear (passenger) pegs very often when droning along the interstate at 70+ MPH - much more comfortable for my legs. Just don't do it when riding at night or in traffic when one may have to quickly use the brake pedal or shifter, as those few seconds of moving one's feet could be bad news. But with clear road and clear skies ahead, it helps on those 100-200 mile long interstate runs.. passenger pegs also vibrate much less in the 'buzzy zone' from 4500-4900 RPM.

I frequently use the rear pegs as well. When I have occasion to be on the freeway at speed I also find leaning on my tank bag to offer a comfortable ride. With my euro style low bars it feels just right.

Good to see. Must have been designed for it. I can just imagine the german engineers working out the perfect placement for the rear pegs.
-
I do it all the time on my Triumph, but haven't on the R65. I'll have to try it. Of course, until I get the Windjammer off I don't really need to hug the tank.

I've done this a few times on my '81, the usual scenario, is not being able maintain the speed limit on rural interstate highways at full throttle during high wind conditions, does look rather unusual to other motorists .

Yep! What he said! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] I discovered the less vibration pretty quickly and now I use the rear pegs without even thinking about it! Just always make sure I have them on the front pegs coming into town where I need to be more attentive.

i like the rear pegs on my f650, but on the r65 i use the engine guards and the jugs as an alternative foot rest.
guess i'll have to try them on the r65.

I use my rear pegs all the time too just as nhmaf and msbuck say. I lay on my tankbag and find it most comfortable even with the US bars.
