Title: New to the forum
Post by: AndrewB on July 02, 2009, 10:47:14 AM
Hello All,

I've got a 83 R65 that is my year round commuter. I've started to work on it myself. Just completed a rebuild on the carbs & brakes which went well.
Next up is the tachometer, odometer & oil leaks.
Glad to find the forum.

Welcome aboard!  Where do you live for year round commuting?  Let's see a pic of your bike.

Welcome, you've come to the right place for information on the care and feeding of the little critters.  What kind of issues with the tach, odo and oil leaks?

Hello, Andy, and welcome to R65 Central. We're all friendly fire 'round these parts so don't be a stranger. ;)

Where do you call home &park your Beemer when you're not commuting?

We love photos. Sing out if you need assistance on how to post pics.

Monte

Welcome Andy. I agree that you came to the right place for help and support! I actually fixed my odometer once. Yea, it still works. The impt. thing was to get the 4 zeros (0's) to line up with a push of the wee button. It wouldn't work unless they were! Getting into the speedo was picky but the big thing was to realize that ya had to remove a metal bezel to get it apart. It has to be reused too! So gently pry at it with that in mind. There is a good article on the net by someone who got inside the speedo himself and fixed the little gears that need crazy gluing. Someone here will provide the link.
A good cleaning was useful too. Article tells us how to even get that terribly small speedo needle off it's spindle. BTW, Do not use a magic marker to mark alignment of speedo needle, then use alcohol to clean!!! :-[

:D Ya see, Andy? We're always confessing our slips and goof ups. At least those that won't get us un-elected as governor of South Carolina!  8-)

The R65 is an addiction of sorts... Hello. My name is Monte and I have a BMW problem.
