Just returned from the county tax office. Was time to renew the 81's tag at $40.00+ per year. Wised up and bought a Texas Antique MC license plate for $52.80 that's good for five years. Y'all can do the math. Will tag my 83 R65 the same way.
Quoting Texas DPS law, "Antique license plates are issued for motorcycles that are at least 25 years old and are a collector's item. The vehicle must be used exclusively for exhibitions, club activities, parades or other functions of public interest. Vehicles displaying Antique plates may not be used for regular transportation or carry advertising; however, the vehicle may be driven to and from a location for routine maintenance."
I like the 'collector's item' notation! The 'exhibition' note tells me to remember I exhibiting my bike every time I ride. Several buds locally have these tags and there's no hassle riding the bike as much as you care to. One BMW friend has only one 'antique' tag that he swaps between the several vintage bikes he owns.

We have something similar here in Arizona, they call it Historical Motorcycle plate .
Bike must be at least 25 years old as well .
I've got one on my '81, and I was over by MrRiden/Rich about a week ago to take his Hall Effect sensor over to him, and Rich has the same type plate on his LS .
The cost is $10 a year more but with the collector insurance I have, it exempts me from annual exhaust emissions testing, which is $20 a year .
