Here I am trying to get everything ready for my long weekend to the 49er Rally, and we had a heat wave this weekend. It doesn't get that hot very often, and I don't have air conditioning.
I was out trying to get the old roundels off my bike so I could put the new ones on. That's really a PITA, and by the time I got the 2nd one off it was too hot to be out there - I had sweat dripping into my eyes. It got up to 98 in my back yard that day and didn't cool off until late.
But I did get the R65 vinyl stickers put on the battery covers. Thanks to Monte! I did a search to find the old post on that and the directions were invaluable. I thought I had them both in exactly the same place, but when I was done, one side is a bit higher than the other. Oh well, it's done now. And they are on different sides so you can't see them together anymore! :D
Sunday morning I put the side covers on. Getting the right side cover on wasn't too bad, but the left side cover was a real hassle. I ended up having to have 2 stronger hands to pull that zip tie through. But it's done, and looks really nice. 8-) By the time that was done it was too hot to stay back there with the bike - it got to 100 in my back yard on Sunday. My friend and I ended up going out to eat and going shopping (Kragen's & Home Depot, of course) so we could get into an air conditioned building. ;D What wimps, eh?
Today I got to finish what I started. I got the tail piece roundel off. I did scratch the paint a bit when I pried them off, so I got some black touch up paint. I also found some other scratches I thought should be touched up to protect it. Looks nicer now, at least from a distance. Have to wait until tomorrow to get the new roundels on.
Now I want to put a coat of wax on and really shine her up and protect the paint. But I have no idea what kind of wax to use. What would you suggest?
I'll get pictures when I get her done

Meguiars has some pretty good waxes available, that won't cost too much, and are readily available at the chain type auto parts stores.
I concur with the heat, it's way too hot way too early, even for Phoenix !!!!
It's been 100 F. or above since the 6th of this month, hit 108 F. today, air conditioning don't fail me now !!!!

Do heed the warnings on the can of wax and don't put it on in the hot sun ! Probably it won't get much cooler in the early mornings or evenings, but if you put that stuff on in hot, direct sunlight it is going to be alot of work!

You betcha! I do know about not putting the wax on in the sun. I used to wax my car. I gave up on that though. It's just an 18 year old Toyota and still looks good.
I've got a tarp put up over the back patio where the bike is to keep the sun off. Still gets hot back there, but the shade does help. Luckily the fog has rolled in and it cooled off by 20 degrees today. Ahhhhhhhhhhh, sweet cooling fog.
I'm going to pick up the wax on the way home tomorrow. I'll see if there's time to do it before I leave on Thursday. BwwaaaaaaaaaaHahahahahahaha! Sure thing. ::)

I really like Mothers California Gold pure carnuba wax. I's a hard-cake type of wax that goes a long way and buffs off without any dust. A lot of the Meguires waxes seem to create a lot of dust when buffed off except the Tech Wax - but that crap is about $14 a tub...

If you have the urge to splurge a bit, Zymol has some great waxes, but a bit on the expensive side, they have a motorcycle kit for about $26US, on their website.
I've used their products on my Z-3, and I am quite pleased with the results, but it is 'labor intensive' , spent about 20 hours the first time on the Z-3.

:o Say what?
Bob, Bob, Bob....
How many times have I told you that you don't need to polish the engine and exhaust as well as the panels? That's where your time goes... ;)
Unless - do you have the hard top version? That I can understand giving you all the extra hours you put in - it's a big piece!
Oh and I have to say that this little black duck ain't missing the heat of summer at all. My commiserations with you all.

15 hours of that time was for using a cleaning clay, it's a white car, and it was a lot of work to get the 'road grime' off of it.
It's about a 5 hour job now to do the whole process.
You use your fingers to apply the wax, no applicator, smells like coconut, and banana.
I don't have the hard top, just the standard fabric top.

Hot. So when we get nice weather up here, does that necessarily make it too hot down there, Melena? I'd say I'm sorry but I am so sick of rain.... I put over 400 miles on my Triumph over the weekend and Monday. :D ...where's the emoticon for a really sore butt?
-
Melena, it sounds almost like you are whining a little bit!!! When it's 105 in the shade here we'll talk... ;)
-
Justin, you know you love it when it's still 90F at 10pm! And I've never heard anyone complain about how cold and miserable Texas winters are. ;D

I'd be happy if it was like this week all year 'round...
