I don't dig mine much (pic attached). I'm a 6'0" tall dude, and the seat height and tailbone comfort are AOK , but it tends to want to scoot or lean me towards the tank. I'm considering having it re-stuffed (?) to flatten it out a bit and stop the scooting. It would be nice to be able to stretch out a bit instead of being crowded towards the tank.
I have seen other R65's with a flatter profile to the seat than mine. It's totally possible a previous owner had my seat rebuilt to suit him/her. I don't think the fabric on my seat is stock.
Has anyone had the same issue with being scooted towards the tank? Had your seat modified, rebuilt, or swapped it out for a totally different seat from another model?
Thanks Everybody.

The "embossed" trim design along the seat perimeter does not appear to be R65 specific. May be a PO had the seat overhauled. Monte

It does not look like the stock seat - is it in two pieces?
My '84 stock seat is fairly flat front to back allowing me to shift riding position.
I am 6'3" and had an aftermarket seat on the /6. the riders seat was formed like a tractor seat and it held me too close to the tank. I felt cramped and changed to the stock seat. With the smaller frame of the R65 you will need to be careful about how far forward the seat positions you.

There is a company in Germany that sells repro seats for our bikes - S. Meyer.

The stock seat for your bike is still slightly dished:

But the stock seat from the earlier R65 might be to your liking:

I bought their solo seat (meant for another model) and I love it! It has restored my 2-4 hour riding time. Before, I was in severe pain after 30 minutes, regardless of what kind of aftermarket padding I tried.
I plan to buy one of their dual seats for two-up riding.

Rob,
Which S. Meyer solo seat did you purchase?
-
Rob - is that the half-seat with the small rack behind it? Really sharp looking. Do you have a bit of room to stretch back before hitting the rack?
-
Yes, I have room, but I am just shy of 5' 10", and I use low bars (FYI).
My butt hasn't gone off the back edge yet, but I can feel some luggage when it is strapped on.
Here is a picture of my bike after the mods.

Drew, my seat is a single piece.
Looking at that picture of the older style R65 seat from Rob Valdez' post looks like what I want. Anyone know if there are differences in the mounting points for earlier R65's? It would be great to find that bench style seat and bolt it up to my bike.

Russel Daylong Saddle...Fits just right!!!!! Bought one off E-bay. I eventually sent it back for re-build. It got better when tuned for me.
TTFN,

If you put on an early seat you need to get the tail "cowl" that goes with it and you remove the current rear under-seat storage box. The old tail cowl has a storage compartment (small) built into it...
-
I recovered mine at a local car upholstery place ... about $28.
Seat cowl was removed as I made a rack for the top box and I wanted to keep the weight as far forward as possible yet still have a saddle I could open.
But I really do like Rob's

When I bought my '84 R65 "Britta" in June of '06, she had been ridden by a retired German butcher from Lynchburg, VA who had been all over the country on the bike, 2-up with his wife. He had an older model Corbin seat on the bike that he said made it possible for him and his wife to do 500+ mile days with no problem. I kept the seat on for about a month after buying it, but never got that comfortable enough to want to keep it. Every time I had to brake, I'd slide up the seat on to the tank!
-
So, when I decided to give Britta a "facelift" with new paint and roundels, I found another owner of an '85 R65 living in Houston who had a stock seat and agreed to make an even swap, so we did. I felt better in the saddle, and I have to say it also made Britta look slimmer and a little less frumpy! ;)

the second one in the photo is same as mine which is the origonal one on this bike 1980 with only 30k miles on it

I will need to have my seat redone too.
-
I must say, I really like the brown seat of the first years!
But I am willing to give that up for the more usable storage space under the tail section of the seat from the 2nd generation models.
...for when (and if) I ever get a second seat (and subframe...) ::)
