And you can name your bike... wait for it...  The Bat Mobile Bike!

The "bat ears" are just not working for you. Get some assistance from a graphics professional. It's not mandated that you follow the fairing's mold lines. Striping on the BMW is usually a simple design element. Let your imagination flow but try and avoid the sharp reversals in the design element.

Hmm. It's a bit more of a challenge than I'd have thought. Keep trying designs till you run out of tape  ;D

Actually, I'd be tempted to choose a design and 'live with it' for a few weeks before comitting to painting it.

LOL - hadn't seen it until you pointed it out!

Damn this is hard - but it's been done in the edit section of the photo rather than tape - so it's easy to reconfigure. I may just take you up on the suggestion Monte.

Cheers

Do #3, keep it minimal!  More looks like you're trying to hard.

That's my two cents worth. [smiley=2cents.gif]

Great technique for trying out your striping schemes.  Keep on trying.  The more schemes you can reject the better your final will be.  Definitely keep it as simple as you can.  I'd like to see one with just a stripe around the outer edge of the headlight cutout and maybe another one with a stripe all around the perimeter of the entire fairing.

And you can always take comfort in the fact that it looks great without a pinstripe.

I'm with you, John.  Basic black - without the striping - looks fine to me.

My  [smiley=2cents.gif]  Worth.

Plain black looks fine, but it it were me and I wanted to try pinstripes on it, I'd follow the basic pattern/style of the strips you've already got on the tank.
Too much pinstriping can look bad too, so in keeping with the "less is more", how 'bout this (I added the red dual line in case you've got the red/white line on your tank - otherwise, just do the white in the same weight as on the tank... I wouldn't make it quite so sharply cornered/angular as I sketched it, but you get the idea:

Alternatively, I'd drop the lower line so that it followed along the lower edge of the fairing just above the turn signals, back to the rear

Thanks nhmfa, but if this is what you mean - I'm not so sure. I rather like your idea - thanks. I've also included another one....

I like Trolle's without the upper line--less is best.

Hey aussie!  How much does the bike shop pay you to promote their business?  ;)

Had it been me I would have painted the fairing two colours, with the windshield part black to represent glass/transparency and the rest whatever colour the bike is.

This does not help you as your bike is already black.  Sorry.

However I am with the 'less is more' brigade, to the point where I would be hesitant to put any pin striping on at all.  The fairing is too small and has too many angles for pin striping.  So I would definately be very restrictive on how much I put on.  It might make it too 'fussy'.

This is, of course my own personal oppinion and should be ignored at your own discretion. ;)

You often see pinstipping on a bike on parts where there is a large amount of a single colour to break up an otherwise plain exteria.  Tanks and fairings that are all rounded, etc, with few features to breakup the colour.   This fairing is all angles and flat surfaces, and is a product of its time - the early 80's.  The edges of the flat surfaces could be highlighted in a different way - i.e. with silver/gray detailing - but this is at odds with the style of the rest of your bike.

How about looking at the area that represents the wind shield and painting that instead with a colour that is different from the black but still represents the look of a darkened transparency?  Or use a detailing line to delineate the top 'transpancy' section from the rest of the fairing and leave it at that?

You can see I am making this up as I go along.....

Cracking looking bike though.

I only wish Rob, I only wish...

And Steve - I did just what you suggested..I think. Black 'windshield' and the rest of it the colour of the bike....

I have to agree - I don't want it to look too busy. I've been trying to scan an image of a Hesketh that has a pretty similar fairing but I'm blowed if I can do it. If anyone can help me out with a Canon printer and a Dell laptop I'd be appreciative. I think I may try and just put another piccy up to try and show how it looks.... (Umm can that - it looks pretty awful - the Hesketh has a lot smaller - and a real - windshield)

And many thanks people for the input - I rather like trolles' the best as well - but now I'll get some tape and see how nhmaf's and trolle's look for real. Then if everything goes well hopefully I'll be able to settle and get it done professionally.  :D

Cheers
Tim

Though I'm rather partial to having a bat-mobile.... ;) (had a deprived childhood)

I like trolle's version with the above and below line.  It "grabed" me.

Good luck on your decision.   Remember - it is your bike and should you not like what you do you can always change it!!!!!    8-)

The Hesketh had a much "simpler" design.
