Title: Question about a fairing
Post by: aussie on October 17, 2008, 01:05:20 AM
While my fairing is still waiting to be painted in classic black - I have a question. Originally I was going to have pin stipes on it - but I've been having a look around this site and the ones that I see - such as lastorder's are plain colours - no pinstripes. Does anyone know if these actually had pin stripes or not?? See attachment for the fairing that I have. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, aussie

Here's another picture - a fairing that I didn't win on ebay - but mine is the same. I don't really like where this pinstripe is though...

Aussie,

I'm pretty sure they were not pin-striped.  This fairing was an option, not a standard piece of equipment.    My guess is that it was offered in only a few stock colors w/o pin-stripes.  I've actually never seen one w/ pin-stripes, but I'm sure someone had it done.  Since the fairing is so small, pin-stripes would make it look a little busy to me.  But to each his own . . .  I noticed on the one you posted, the owner blacked out the top section as if to make it look like a windshield.  I almost did that, but kept mine a simple one color affair with no pin-stripes.

<Nods head> Thanks jg - I kinda thought that. I think I may have it painted and then just play around with some tape that can be removed before I make up my mind. I have an S-type fairing as well with the pinstripes and it looks stunning.

I looked this up in the HTK and it states it comes primed so whatever paint scheme you can think of would be "proper"!

<Nods> Thanks Justin. I'm a little excited...the fairing mountings arrived from Stephanie Meyer, Germany today - together with a BMW pamphlet that has mounting instructions.

The pictures, though in B&W, show the fairing and tank - the tank has the pinstripes but the fairing is plain.

I still think I'll play around once I get my @#$%^& fairing back from being painted...... ;)

Get some 3M pinstriping tape and experiment.  If you come up with something you like you can either leave the tape on or give it to the pinstriper and say, "This is what I want, do it in paint."  Of course, if you don't like anything you can just peel, wad up, and toss!  ;D  The 3M stuff is a very good/high quality striping tape and will last for years...

Fairing update......

There is still no fairing....the guy is now trying to catch up on all the work after he returned from illness.

Ain't this the pits - if I don't get it back next weekend I'm off to someone else and taking his head with me  [smiley=behead.gif]. It's a real shame because he does really good work.

Here is a pic of my fairing and front fender with the striping. I changed the white and red to white and blue as I thought it worked well with the BMW logo on the tank. Just my opinion but I think the stripe on the fairing flows nicely with the tank and gives it that finished appearance.

I LOVE that bottom mount!  Are they stock with the fairing?

I tend to agree Rob - that is one nice piece of engineering. Very classy indeed. (And from what I can see the top seems to be about the same)
