Well after much eager anticipation I went down to pick up my handlebar fairing - only to find out that it's not ready - like the fact the guy's been ill for the last one and half weeks is an excuse, huh? :'( Anyhow - here are some pictures that I took - hope I can upload them.

Oh and this is me just taking it easy.....

Nice! Pinstipes on you new fairing would not be out of place on that bike. That's right summer is coming. Here it grows grayer by the dayer. And in Trolleland it is grey all the time! ;)
TTFN,

Black with pinstripes can be so 'right' on an airhead !

That's why they call it "Classic".
;)
Nice looking bike, aussie.

I have black '82 that looks almost just like yours, only mine has the original seat with the fake ribs and center strap and my rear rack is silver rather than black. Otherwise your pictures could be of my Blackie. Beautiful!
When I got her she had the painted pinstripe tank, thin white line with a thinner parallel red line. This white/red striping was repeated (with pinstriping tape) on the front fender, the rear fender, the tail piece, the hard bags and on the one sidecover that came with it, which I have since lost. (Zipties!!!) All that striping was a little much, so I removed it from the cases and the sidecover took care of itself. After seeing those photos of Trolle on the track, I heartily second the suggestion to stripe your new fairing. Forget the sidecovers and cases, though.
What's up with that decal on your headflight?

Hi Yikes
Yes I would think that all the pinstripes on yours would be a little over the top! I heartily second the zipties on the battery covers. The headlight has a protectector over it and was like it when I bought it - the decal is actually etched into it. I really don't like it much but it's already saved the light I think when I took it along some backroads and a car passed me and threw up a rather large stone. :(
I have recently purchased a new cover for it with the ribs. I now have to find a strap....

Sweet! Looks like my '83, except the carbs are different.
I love the classic black with the white and red pinstripes. I've seen other airheads with the front fender pinstriped and that looked nice. But the pinstripes should be to accentuate a particular part rather than just for the pinstriping. I think that's a good idea of yours to just put tape in on the fairing and see how it looks in different spots. Doing it right could make it look really classy.
By the way, I like that "Picture of Me"! You are either really hairy or your dog's name is "Me"! ;D Really, though, a very distinguished looker there. 8-)

Looks a very nice machine. I really like the black with white pin stripes finish too. And I agree stripes would be the way to go with the headlamp fairing, though I haven't seen an example on that type of fairing.
Regarding application of stripes, my R65 is a 1982 model and the factory did not brush paint the pinstripes. On VERY VERY close examination I can tell they used the masking tape technique and sprayed on the stripes. Yours being an earlier model you may well have proper stripes, and I guess you'll want similar craftsmanship on the fairing. But , if not, sprayin em on is dead easy with the right tape.

Looks cool! Myself, I'm kinda partial to metallic gold pinstripes on black...

really really nice looking ride... those twin shockers look great!

Looking sharp. Post some more when you get that fairing up on there.

Hi
Really nice looking ride you have got there and a black dingo as well.
My wh8la2 will get new clothes and a RS fairing this winter all in black with a white stripe like yours.
greetings from a grey, cold, windy and wet north and I am going sailing next weekend for which I have to ride 200 miles in the cold, wet and windy fall of Scandinavia.
