If you are the owner of this machine parked on the sidewalk in front of Wells Fargo bank, you deserve a mighty high five. I spent 10 minutes gawking at your bike this afternoon - it is beautiful. Hoping to find the owner to know if that single shock setup was a custom job, and if it was done locally in the bay area.
For the rest of you, no I don't have pics (me = dumbass). I greatly apologize.
This bike was i think a late 70's R100. Black and absolutely spotless. It had the throttle cables going directly into the top of the carbs, never seen that before. It also had both rear stock shocks gone, replaced with a very slick single shock + reservoir arrangment tucked up between the battery and seat, with some bracing welded onto the swingarm for the single. It all looked extremely clean and tidy. A sharp machine that looked like you could jump on and ride cross county without hesitation.

Rob, you may know this, but as far as I know all the GS bikes were single shock of one kind or another. Even the early 80s R80GSs. I don't know how to guess/estimate the specific year that any of them were made.

Ed, I didn't know that about GS's.
This was a very modern looking setup, not just like a monolever. It was a pretty slick. I really should have been on the ball and taken a picture!

Yeah, I don't remember which year it was that the R80G/S was introduced to the U.S., but it was after I bought my R65, or I wouldn't be on this forum right now! ;)
I don't know though, I really enjoy my low bars.
It didn't stop me from pretending, though!

Rob650,
You have a knack for finding the coolest BMW's around. 8-) Was this in SF?
I know I haven't had my camera with me at the right times either. :-[

Melena, this was south of San Francisco about 25 miles. Airheads just stand out!
