Title: Wet Indy red flagged
Post by: montmil on September 14, 2008, 03:37:11 PM
Well, Valentino Rossi would have probably bagged the US debut of the MotoGP series even if tropical depression Ike had not shut it down seven laps from the end due to heavy rain.

Spectacular riding in the wet! 175 mph, knees dragging, face shields fogged over... GREAT! I hope these guys return next year... in the dry. I may have to take time from work and go see this.

And Casey Stoner did not fall off!

A bit disappointing to see it cut short by 7 laps but a fine race none the less. I was wishing to see Hayden hold on to the lead and hoped for a restart to give him a second chance but it was not to be. Looks like race Sunday with the F1 at Monza just finished and then the 250 Moto GP. Gotta go make more nachos.

Well, Casey did fall off, just not during the race...  :P  And the 250 race was first postponed and then canceled.  I must admit I can't even begin to imagine riding in that WIND much less racing at close to 200 mph!  I tried to tape the races so we could see what we saw live from a different point of view.  Alas, our power went out sometime before the race started and all I got was black screen.  >:(  The only trouble with being at the race is the limited viewpoint, but you really get the feel of the speed!  And Rossi made his pass on Nicky RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!!!  ;D

The date for next year is August 30th! You should definitely make plans to attend.  The city did a fantastic job welcoming the crowd, no price gouging at the hotels, nice clean track and they really stayed on top of things when the mud, etc appeared.  They had events going on all over town as well and then there was the flat track race back at the Indy Mile...
