Title: Spline Lube Done!
Post by: Semper Gumby on February 02, 2008, 03:19:08 PM
Just finished anothe spline lube on the old R65.  Seems 10,000 miles is a good number for me.  Replaced the rear Macadam for a AVON Roadrider 4.00V18 (stock size) that I took off the BSA Firebird and ...WOW.  What a change!  The handling has inproved dramatically over the 120/90H18 size.  I got 17,000 miles out of the Macadam so when the Avon wears out in about 7-8,000 miles I will try the Macadam in the 4.00H18 sixe and see if I get the same result.

Evidence:  The bike used to wobble (Neutral to negative stability) above about 75mile perhour.  With the 4.00V18 on the rear I can go up to 85 mph with NO WOBBLES.  That is quite a change!!!

BTW - I'm still running a 110/90H18 Macadam on the front.  At 17,000 miles it looks like the front tire may make 40,000!   :o

TTFN,

i have noticed that some times with tires, seems that the side walls are a little taller and that changes the rake which changes handling. i have atleast six near new tires in the garage that i took off because it changed the handling in a negative way.
