Hope this link works... Interesting idea, and am willing to bet we see this in some form or another in the near future!

It works John.
I don't know about the Segway type of movement. It seems like it needs a bit of tweaking yet. This might be good for young guys, but old fogies might hav ea hard time with it. I know I would like some more balancing front to back. I've heard of people falling off the segway - not in moving forward, but in stopping! :o
But, in saying that, I do think we will see something like this in some form very soon.

I think it's cool! 8-) Would love to see something like that really work!

It's nearly there, but there are a couple of complications. The principal one is range -- even with the high-powered version, the range between charges is (as of the last time I checked) right at the limit of the 15-mile round-trip commute I have to my Metro station.
A personal obstacle: My daughter (age 24) told me about 6 months ago that if she ever saw me on a Segway, she would permanently disavow any relationship between us. She thinks Segway is the ultimate in dorkiness.
She might have a point. The DC Metropolitan Police Department has put its downtown (Federal Triangle area) foot patrol cop on a Segway. The sight is surreal -- a Segway overloaded by a 300-pound, blue-clad Sponge Bob/Squarepants wearing a Carolina Blue/Infantry Blue bicycle helmet (i.e., the color of this web page's background, for benefit of our colleagues in other realms). For his health, his superiors should have kept him pounding the concrete.
