Got a Harbor Freight Tool catalog today in the mail, and I saw a 'blind hole bearing puller'.
Harbor Freight part number : 95987.
Is this a tool that could remove bearing races, like swing arm, and steering head , I know for certain that my swing arm bearings and races require replacement, just wondering if this tool would be any good for the job, cost is $29.99US .

That might do the job. I bought one of the following a while back but have not had occasion to try it yet. It's interesting that this used to be $20-something and was on sale for what is now the regular price. Sometimes you gotta watch HF, they are as sneaky as Wally-World at times.

I've never changed a clutch, that I remember, where I had to change a pilot bearing. Most vehicles that I've worked on don't have them. It would be cool if that works for swing arm (HOW many miles on your bike, Bob?) and steering head bearings.

I've got 80,000 miles on the bike, I saw indentations on the swing arm bearing races, when I did my major maintenance last year.
I'll get to it this year, when the temperatures get back to a cooler mode !

when i did my steering head bearings i just heated the bearing and then was able to get under it and pop it off. kind of caveman but i didnt care about the bearing. the races i was able to get a drift punch on and knock loose. the swing arm races would be tough with out heating the swing arm to get them to fall out

I just happen to have a wheel / swing arm bearing sittin' here on the 'puter desk. Lets see...My wooden school ruler measures the ID of the race at 1 3/16 and the OD at a bit more than 1 1/2. Looks to me the provided collets at 1 1/4 for the largest just wont do it. If ya have an old bearing I'd take it down and check, if ya don't I have a specimen I could drop off on my way to werk for ya to borrow.

I already purchased the tool set, and after talking to a machinist that comes into work to make bushings for landing gear attach points, he said it would be no problem to 'open' the adjustable collet to fit, if it was too small.
I checked around, and until you get into the high cost tool sets, 1.25 inches is all you can find.
I'm kicking myself now, as my employer had a Snap-On blind hole bearing puller, to remove starter shear shaft adapters from the Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines that we had on the 737-200 aircraft, after these aircraft were removed from service about 4 years ago, they sold the tooling for not much more than scrap metal prices, cost for the same tool set today is over $1600.
The other puller from Harbor Freight, looks like it would work on the steering head and wheel bearings, but there isn't much clearance on the swing arm bearing race .
