We have similar here in Oz, though no refusal to fill (self serve with pump activation inside at the counter by the attendant). The only reference is when you enter to pay, there is a sign at the door asking motorcyclists to remove their helmets. Seems bad guys have robbed places wearing full face helmets in the past so the requirement so the attendants don't run for cover.
At my go juice local, I just flip my front face (BMW System helmet) piece up and never have a complaint, though I probably look more comical with all the protection than threatening!!

I've had an occasional problem here in the Phoenix area, with leaving my helmet on when entering to pay for fuel, but this was usually in the area of 1-4 am, after coming home from work,
I can understand it at that time of day, but not all of the time, unless there is a problem of not paying for their, purchase and leaving.
Maybe there's cameras and they can't get a good picture of the offenders.
It will be interesting to see what brought this about .

Weird. No problems here, where I pay with a card at the pump anyway. I flip up my HJC just so that I can see better to not overfill the tank.

I'm with Ed, I always pay at the pump. Once gas prices got out of line places around here won't turn on the pumps until a "deposit" is left, and then that amount is entered as the shutoff point. Now a cash sale require 2 trips inside, once to leave a "deposit" and again to retrieve your change...
I think that I even remember hearing on the news about a couple of local municipalities that passed ordinances requiring stores to require this to cut down on the number of drive-off calls the cops were getting. Seems the local fuzz got tired of responding to gas thefts due to drive-offs so the "perfect" solution was to inconvenience the customer further...

Getting asked to remove your lid is something thats becoming more and more common in the UK. Sometimes its understandable but what really bugs me is when they are rude when they ask and then there is no where safe to place my lid... A good example being post offices and banks! The conuters are that small you cannot set the lid down safely and I sure am not going to put it on the floor, as I´ve seen non riding toss-pots who think that they can use a lid as a foot rest...
I had a right old barney with the old manager od the BP garrage in Ambleside about a few years ago, when he told me to take my lid off (an open face) when I pointed out that wearing a helmet is a legal requirement, he told me "leave it on my bike?" Nautrually I refused asking if he would leave something worth 300 quid sat unsecured on his car roof?
Then making my day the local plod turned up to fuel their panda car and when the manager started twining about me they took myside in the argument and told him in no uncertain terms to "stop being a tosser, and that if he wants bikers to remove their lids then he should make sure his counter was big enough to set them down safely!" I´ve always had loads of time for ambleside plod since then.

PS the Canary Island roads are mental... Although the 1150 oil head the wife and I hired is a rather sweet machine.

<sigh> They just want a picture because everybody is a suspect. Unfortunately I have had the same issue with my company parking lot. Seems they what to ID the jerk on the bike with the ID on the shoulder. I actually understand this but since there are no Snell aproved Flip up Lids (Helmets) I am loath to buy one just so I can go to work. Lucky for me I ride to work all the time and all the Gate Guardians know me.

Might want to read this article. It proposes that helmet design set to meet Snell may be for only 1% of impact situations, while not actually affording the best protection for the other 99%. I'm not saying (or is the article) that Snell is redundant or of no significance in helmet design, especially with needed development in the past, but it's standards may be now unrealistically (statistical real life situation) strict, and how it may be used by some manufacturers as a marketing ploy.

That was a good reminder, Bill. I remember the "Hurt" report when it came out and have always thought the Snell rating more of a marketing gimmick and excuse to charge more. What it all boils down to, I guess, if you are going fast enough and hit something pretty hard, you are pretty much gonna croak...
