Title: R65 love
Post by: Joan on January 23, 2007, 01:39:55 PM
How much do you love your wee beemer?

Enough for an R65 tattoo?

Who has one? What's it look like?

I'm asking because I'm thinking of one but this
http://www.pbase.com/joanmarie/image/69110089.jpg
is too, uh... "detailed".

Thanks!

HI Joan!

I refer all BMW/motorcycle/tattoo queries to Suki at MySpace.

So far, no tats for me.

Hey, Joan, glad you finally found us!  I don't know about too detailed, maybe too graphic?  ;)  See ya in a couple of months...

I'm not sure about putting  a tattoo of an R65 on my body, but will likely put a BMW roundel on me sometime this summer!  (That covers me if I get my "dream bike", the R1200C Montana later this year!) ::)
Title: Re: R65 love
Post by: Joan on January 24, 2007, 09:24:26 PM
Wow! I'd have guessed _everyone_ here would have a permanent honorary mark for their little bike. I mean besides the occasional black and blue that fades quickly! Or those forearm burn marks from the headers. (she giggles)

Ah well... I guess I don't really neeeeed a tattoo, but hell. I'm practically giving away a PERFECT R100RT to make room in my tiny garage for the R65RS project and all her spares, clothes, and luggage, so scheyeah, I'm now committed to the model that gave me my first case of actual moto lust. Maybe I'm R65 Love tatt material after all. Or maybe I've had too much whisky. [smiley=1drink.gif]

I'm thinking the "R65" number and letter motif, the small R and big 65, in blue, black, and a little white would be perfect. Butt where on my ample a$$ should it be....?

And I think it is a Capital Idea, Joan!  I am so happy to hear you are returning to the fold. :)

Joan, I have another idea.  Why don't you get one of our wonderful and wonderous R65 patches to put on your jacket.  Then everyone could see it and not just those you are closest to.   ;)

Dern it all anyway.  I was going to put a picture here but I can't remember how to do it.   Oh, here it is.  Duh.

Oops.  Forgot to mention.  PM me for more info if you're interested.  They are only $5 apiece.  I have them, at least what's left of them.

No tattos for me!   Just the idea makes me queasy.  [smiley=thud.gif]

Oooo! Those are MUST HAVE Cool Grrl Gear! [busy pm'ing Melena] Very nice! How long have these been around? I mean, I don't remember one on Rob's jacket when I saw him last. W00t! Five clams each is CHEEP.

No tatts, but how 'bout this?? Others on this sight may have seen it before on Boxerworks, and no, it's not PhotoShopped, a decal, or a contact.

There is an outline of one where it was glued on my jacket for a brief period, but it started coming loose, so I removed it.  Not a big fan of patches on jackets anyway.  I might get around to sewing it on my tent fly some day.

You know, Bill, I had forgotten about your "accessory" but now remember your post at boxerworks.   [smiley=shocked2.gif]  I will admit that it is probably the most cool and unusual, and at the same time unsettling pieces of gear I've ever seen.   [smiley=naughty.gif]

I also found out that gluing the patch to my heavy leather jacket doesn't work very well -
and I'm loath to try to sew it through that leather, so, I'm probably going to get a
blue, black and white textile/mesh jacket this spring and glue it to that - along with
my BMWMOA patch..

"It's all fun and games til someone loses and eye."

Bill, you are Wild. And I know Wild Herself. That is off the chart, cool guy cool, because there is no topping THAT EYEBALL.  8-)

Have you got others? And are you touring the States soon???
Title: Re: R65 love
Post by: airhead on January 26, 2007, 05:03:57 PM
Ha ha!! I'm definitely not wild Joan. No others 'cept my 'normal' one, but have toyed with the idea of one with a red laser LED in it ala 'Terminator', but I'll leave that to others. LOL
Wear it to club events and such, gotta show the passion!! Can't stand the thought of a tatt. My Occularist has made a Chevrolet bow tie logo eye for someone, an eye in football colours for a fan, and an eye with a small fish swimming across it for an avid fisherman (who lost his eye to an errant hook during a fishing trip).

Bill.......................;-)
Title: Re: R65 love
Post by: Joan on January 31, 2007, 09:43:27 PM
Red Laser! YES! You could use that on the road to scare the pokey cars out of your way.  ;D

And you can claim you are not wild, butt Bill, dooOOOOood... you have the only BMW eye in the known universe. !!! You are in a top drawer all by yourself (she says with great respect and awe)!

Whew! Well, for me I'm still thinking on that tatt. A coworker was suggesting the temporary henna tattoo route. Temporary?!  [smiley=stare.gif] Ha!

In honor of Seattle's First Thursdays art gallery walk thing, here's my un-artful trial R65 Love tatt design:

It's supposed to be small in this iteration, for posting purposes, but heck, I didn't think it would be THIS tiny. Huh. Maybe it's my laptop screen?

I'm thinkin' 1"x2" or 2"x2" for actual size.

Hmmm.
Title: Re: R65 love
Post by: Rob Valdez 79 R65 on February 01, 2007, 08:55:22 PM
You know....

you might just have something there.

R65 on my right arm, Corinne (my daughter) on my left.

The white background square measures 1 1/4" wide x 1 1/2" tall on my screen, FWIW.

NOW yer talking!

Okay you beemerers, this is how it is:  according to my wicked busy schedule, Saturday evening 24 February 2007 is R65 LOVE TATTOO NIGHT!!
This means you have three weeks to beat me to it. Or *bonus*--->  show up in Seattle that day and get one too, a la legend style.

W0000t! The gauntlet has been thrown!

I'm also thinking of just the outline of the R65 instead of solid black. Might take about ten minutes that way. Or less! And oooo, I could get it in beautiful Blueberry Blue! Wow. Looks close to BSOD blue. Er.

Hmmm.

Have your tatt artist draw it on in felt tip first so you can take a long hard look at it in a mirror before you have it stamped on forever. Twice now I've had stuff drawn on that did'nt look as cool as I thought it did on paper, thank god for magic markers.

A couple different times in my life I've thought seriously about getting a tattoo, but always

more identifying marks.. ;D

OUCH! That's actual scarring. (shiver) I'd never do anything like that!

Yeah, that girl had a 2' x 3' scarification, but I already spouted off my personal druthers about that. Vive la difference!

That would be really cool if Ken had a few more than two R65's in attendance... some of ya'll live near Oklahoma/Arkansas? Ken's is WAY cool and fun!  ;D Just hope I can make it again this spring!

I'm going to choose one of last nights brand new tat photos to put up. Yesterday before leaving the tattoo artist studio, I noticed the new art was seeping a little blood and marine blue ink, so the artist taped a piece of gauze over it so as not to leak out onto my blouse.

Well last night I was a little enthusiastic tearing off the bandage. I wanted to see the cute little thing! I pulled way too hard on the tape and it bruised my already supersensitized skin and it's really red. Argh.  :-[

Anyhow... gimme a minute and I'll have a simple one ready to post...

And jeez, I hardly felt it! About a tenth of the scritchy thing I was expecting. And I KNOW pain. On a scale of zero to 11, it was a 2, tiny rock in your Tevas kind of thing. Oh!  Now that doesn't look so bad.  But it does look a little red and irritated right now.  Ouch.   :-/   But, I think I like it.

Okay, okay.  I do like it.   ;D  It's pretty.

Thank yew!

Sure it looks a little red and all, but it doesn't hurt unless I really flex my muscles.  [smiley=ROTFLMAO.gif] (what muscles??) Then I can feel it, a tiny spot of itty bitty soreness, and that is fading really fast, too. Excellent!

I flashed a couple of coworkers today during a slow moving meeting. OMG! That is when I learned ALL the women in my team have tats and NONE of the men do. How cool is that?  8-)

Congrats and kudus to you, Joan!  Way to go!!!    [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Maybe you will inspire me to go ahead this year and get the official BMW Roundel tat on my left forearm!  My 21 year-old son has already gotten three tattoos on his arms!

(Now you're sure this didn't hurt, huh?)  :-/

Oh I'm sure! Pain is relative, though. It was about half as prickly as a paper cut, about a third as irritating as a hiking boot blister. Plus it was very temporary. After three or four hours the bandage comes off, I washed it per the instructions with a mild antibacterial soap, then spread a little A&D ointment on it several times a day, keeping it moist until it heals up. Keep it clean. No hot tubs or swimming for a month. Pretty simple!

It took about ten minutes from start to finish, the artist was super fast AND his straight lines are perfect! In fact, it took longer for him to prepare the work surfaces and tools with plastic sheets than it did for the actual inking.

In fact, if ANY of you find yourselves in Seattle and feeling your own R65 Love storm coming on, I will pay the nice man for your tat.  ;D

Yeah, the ex got a little butterfly thing a couple of years after the divorce.

Maybe it's time I show her what a REAL tattoo is!

(specially since it is only a "2" on the draggin' a broken pelvis up a flight of stairs chart (???))

I can sense Rob is getting braver!! Hmmm...I got to hand it to you Joan, you followed through with the tattoo and one can't argue about your choice of design....at least it all went much more smoothly than when WE designed the R65 forum patch!!!  Can you imagine a tattoo shop going through what we did to get that patch off and running? They probably would forbid anyone other than the tattoo receiver to be present.

Any one know the dates of Ken's bash in OK????

Looking REALLY good now! The exfoliating is about done and the blue has lightened up a shade or two... VERY pretty, Infamous Blueberry blue! Yum!

Thank you everyone for your encouragement during this process!  [smiley=clap.gif]

I would think that the reverse is true.  It is YOU who have encouraged us!  Well, some of us, anyway.
Then there is Lowen...

BTW Sue, Matt is in Daytona this week, so don't expect anything for a while.  He'll need to get reorganized once he gets back...

[size=48]If[/size] a person were to come out to Seattle to get one of these tattoos...

one would just have to go to Maltby, NE of town for all or part of one of these...

(that's a full size dinner plate!)

Oh, Rob!  I'd probably eat that whole thing by myself.   :o   And then go into a diabetic coma or something.  Yikes!    :-/   It does look good!

Not for me, the idea of having a needles jabbed into my skin for fun gives me the creaps... (yes I'm a coward). Wouldn't mind one of the patches though :)

Well done Joan,

I remember that beaten head when I popped across to Seatle a couple of years back.  Has it been that long?

Glad to here the R65 is going well.

Tattoo's....hmmm, been sat in a tattoo parlour a couple of times over the years, but never managed to get myself under the needle.....

The last time I was in I was so embarassed as I was the only person who was a) male and b)over 19.

Loads of young girls having the same celtic rubbish put on - all with prams and babies.

I only wanted a Gecko on the side of my calf, probaly would have only taken 5 mins.  Thought better of it, and bought some stainless bits for the Cafe Racer.
