I'm going to look at a silver '82 LS tomorrow, it sounds like a decent bike, only problem, second owner and the odometer doesn't work (there's a surprise!) and mileage is unknown. A reputable independent BMW airhead mechanic went through the bike about 9 months ago and gave the bike a clean bill of health, thinks that the bike has at best 15-20,000 mile (24-32,000 km.) on it. The owner has it for sale for $3000 and will negotiate, wants to sell the bike to get a dual purpose bike, considering an F650. I know it's kind of hard to judge anything without seeing it, but without confirmed mileage, I am not willing to pay more than $2400 US for the bike. The owner doesn't really sound like a hard core BMW rider, with the comments about the bike, doesn't really sound like he knows anything about it at all , bought the bike about 9 months ago. Any thoughts about the price for this bike?

$2400 sounds like a good deal, and $3K ain't too bad if it's clean and complete.
Doing a quick check on Ebay, Cycletrader and ibmwr.org doesn't reveal anything better than that, and usually the prices are higher, say $3500+ for a clean example. In my experience prices are generally higher out West too, so $2400-ish doesn't sound bad at all.
Good luck! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Mmm, another silverone, is 2007 the year of the LS :)
Good luck with the bike.

I'd say that $2400 is a decent price, without seeing it to revise that estimate.
It should have all the bits, though may possibly need things like shocks, tune
ups, carb cleans, fork rebuild and/or brakes at that point. If they have any
records of maintenance, that could be cause to adjust the value upward a bit.
I paid very close to $2400 for my '82 LS with 15K original miles, all guages working, sidecovers, etc.
though it has definitely required alot of cleanup and adjustment, rebuilding of the usual
stuff (Forks, brakes, etc), replacing rubber grommets, filters, etc. at that.
Having experienced it myself, I'd recommend that if you buy it that you pull the tranny
and do a spline inspection and lube along with changing all the fluids and filters right off
the bat...

I've made up a 4 page list of items, that I know of from owning my '81 R65 for the past 26 years that are probably going to be bad on a 25 year old bike. The seller doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb in the display, I told him yesterday, that I would call him at 6:30 pm and let him know I was on my way it's 38 miles (64 km.) and about an hour drive. I call him at 6:30 and he tells me he has to push back the time and he'll call in about an hour. Well it's 9:00 pm and still no return call from him. I guess I'll try again on the weekend.

Did you pass on it? I may be interested in a second

I tried calling a couple of times from work today, and got a busy signal. So I guess I'll keep trying.

If you pick it up ping me. I would love to see it.

Bluemoon still has an 81 (?) R65LS Henna Red. Last I asked it was $3800.
