Believe it or not there is a fellow from Victoria BC who rode across Canada, west to east, this past January!! Call him foolish or daring, here's the story which is episodic so takes some time to read through:

Hey, it's this same guy, Paul from BC!
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109911
I've been watching him since hearing about the ride from a beemer friend on the island. WAY cool!
Stories like this make me want to bundle up like a parade balloon and git!
Go Iceman and Frosty!

Thanks Sue. That is some ride that guys is doing.
I read most of it, but when I got to January 7 it wouldn't let me go farther. Said I needed to log in. Oh well. At least I got to read some of his story.

I had the same problem Melena...I will try to get at the rest of the story from the other end and work backwards.
Brother Rich saw him riding through Port Hastings which is just as one comes off the causeway to Cape Breton from the mainland. The roads were slushy, snowy, sleeting and it was -20 deg. windchill! This Paul Mondon must be some guy! BTW. his plans to return home via the States is cancelled and his next plan to ride back across Canada are cancelled and he was flown home by BMW Canada along with the bike. This is my understanding. I keep wondering if he ever feel down at all?? He sure must have been puckering up a few times I would think!!!

I really liked Paul's ride pace. He rode as long as he wanted while the weather cooperated, stopped when he was tired or the wx turned bad...
Dang it, doesn't his story make you want to do a ride like that? I KNOW our R65's can handle winter riding veeeery easily, finding the *time* for an open ended ride is the hard part (for me). [smiley=wall.gif]

How about this for an R65 trip.

For Melena and anyone else looking to continue reading Paul Mondon's trek account: I think we need to change the number "180" that is in the address link to "189" and go from there. Seems "189" represents january 8th. Give it a try anyway. Good luck.

If "189" doesn't work try "190" and "191". The worst part is to come for him.
