Title: Hey all / intro
Post by: alkay191 on January 20, 2007, 10:30:15 AM
I hope this is the right place for intro.
Short version of a long story here:
I'll be 44 next month and been riding about 37 years. Dirt, street, touring and roadracing. Took a little hiatus (sp?) for 3 years, but it's in my blood. My wife actually pushed me back into racing. I think I'm easier to live with when I'm happy  ;).
I've probably owned close to 50 motorcycles over the years. Jap, American and Euro with BMW being my fav. Had a K100RS MadMax Iron Butt bike and my Ex is still tooling around on my old R75/7 with Velorex side car. Currently, I'm 99% done with cafe/roadracer R100/7 and working on R50/5. Both bikes are barely street legal roadracers.
I've always lusted after R65LS and would love to find one to fix-up,love,abuse and repeat the process.

Welcome alkay!  Would love to see pictures of your bikes, especially your cafe/roadracer R100/7. Have you done much racing with the BMWs?  If so how did they fare against the competition?  What series do you run?  I love to go WATCH the racing.

Hope you enjoy the list and you just might find a good lead for a restorable LS by watching here!

This is my first attempt at racing BMW. They are NOT the best platform to build on in any racing series, but with right amount of $$$$ anything can run up front. I've seen some very fast Beemers. I'm not sure yet, how far I'll develop these 2 bikes.
R100 will see its first track time in February at Jennings GP in Florida. I plan on racing it in WERA Vintage V4 / V5 and CCS Florida Vintage Heavyweight.
R50 should be done by mid summer and will run in CCS Vintage LightWeight, WERA 500GP/F500/V2/V3 and maybe AHRMA 500 Sportsman. Most likely, I'll just race CCS in Florida and just a couple of other races with WERA and AHRMA. I love Mid-Ohio, so I'll be there every summer and definitely Barber.

Come on out and enjoy the races! There is so little interest and support for road racing in this country, its a shame! Club racers always welcome more spectators and help in the pits. You can always volunteer to be a corner worker. Thats the best seat in the house!

Wow, lots of work done on your race bike!  Can't expect a race bike to be PC afterall...

I've been down to the Sebring racetrack helping my Dad race in SCCA.  He STARTED racing when he turned 70 years old.  He's usually running the timing and scoring.  That's the only Florida track, other than Daytona I've been to.  The only Vintage races I've seen were at Daytona during bike week.   That used to be a regular trip for us, but after 16 years we've finally quit going.  Mostly because of the loss of the BMW Campout over at Bulow Campground.

I've never been to Mid Ohio, but it's definitely on my list of tracks to visit.  We're not far from VIR in Virgina, so that's the track we've been to most often.  We went to Barber for the first AMA race a few years back.  The museum is incredible.  Camping was a horror, though so we haven't been back.

Keep us posted on your progress with the bikes and when you start racing!

Welcome to the "jungle", alkay! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  Lotsa folks here who share your 'lust" of the LS (just ask Sue!)

Good lookin' pic of your cafe racer, too!  There are several guys and gals who also fancy a cafe racer, too!  (like me!) [smiley=wink.gif]

Hope to see you as a regular around these parts! [smiley=grin.gif]  This place is always good for a laugh!

I definitely plan to make Mid-Ohio this year.  I should be ashamed for not doing it before, as close as it is.

I am thinking seriously of trying to make Barber this year, as well.
