Title: Cold Morning
Post by: Bob_Roller on January 14, 2007, 06:10:46 AM
Well it's going to be a cold ride to work this morning, it's 23 F. (-5 C) at 5 am, that's a bit chilly for Phoenix. At least I'll have heated grips on the 1150R, seeing as how the R65 is out of service until I get the tail light and turn directionals replaced.

Well, it is just after 10 am here, and it is 37F (3C) as I prepare to go for a ride to get speed/tachometer readings for NC(?) Steve.  We have so many Steves here now!  NOT complaining! :D

I don't think it's supposed to get above freezing today, and it's starting to rain again...  :P

Thanks Rob, but don't freeze yourself, it can wait!
Meanwhile, at 10:32, here it's 63 F, expected high of 70, on Jan. 14th: this is too weird!

Too late Steve.  I am pumped for this.  I need a kick in the butt to get out sometimes.

Bite me!  [smiley=flamethrowingsmiley.gif] I have a paint job to finish and it won't warm up enough on the weekends (for the past several weeks) for me to get the job done! >:(  I can get my shop warm enough, but the "warm" air is replaced with "cold" air just a couple of minutes after turning on my exhaust blower, I guess it moves TOO much air...  :-/

Okay Rob, go for it, and I do 'ppreciate it.
Meanwhile, on this lovely day I woke up with a case of the crud  [smiley=puke2.gif]
Took the Kid to a local Greasy Spoon last night, and it ain't sitting too well, that's for sure, so probably no riding today...

I hate it when that happens.  Almost enough to make me change to a healthy diet... ::)

Thanks, Steve, that makes me feel a LITTLE better... ;)  That has happened to me at a few of the hole-in-the-wall mexican joints around here...

Gee Justin, I'm so glad that my barfy belly makes you feel better about the weather there in Texas. ;)
That's okay, though, because tomorrow's supposed to be 70 & sunny too, and I've got the day off for MLK Day. ;D

By the way, are you getting hit with any of these big storms rolling thru Oklahoma and the Midwest?
Seems like that area and the Rockies are getting slammed this winter, while the East coast is unnaturally warm. People cutting their grass and running around in shorts and flip-flops out here!

Hehe, you're welcome.  We are catching the edge of it.  Things had been really nice until a few weeks ago and we are now already several inches ahead on rain for the year - not good motorcycle weather...

High today here is 75°F (24°C) and LOTS of bikes out on the road.  But we wanted to do some geocaching so we took the Subaru out.  Tomorrow should be another beautiful day for hmmm....riding....caching...or BOTH! :P

I'll add my  [smiley=2cents.gif] on the weather.   Here on the west coast we are having way below freezing temps at night.  Down into the teens to mid twenties.  That's cold for  here!  It's sunny and very dry.  No rain.  It's usually raining this time of year and we are behind in our rainfall for the year so far.  It does warm up during the day but only to the low 50's, and it's only that warm for a short while.

There are people out riding, but I've had other things to do this weekend anyway.  And I have to work tomorrow even though it is MLK Day.  Oh well.

I love this weather Melena!  Compared to my normal yucky rain anyway.  As of yesterday there was still ice and snow for a half mile from my house, but I bet most of it melted/sublimated off today.  I took the studded tires off my car, cleaned and regreased R65 front wheel bearings (new tire installed last week) and swing arm bearings, installed a new turn signal/headlight combination switch on my car, and went for a walk in the snow, not in that order.  It's beautiful.  And I have the next two days off!

According to the weather station that I have,  low temp for this morning was 22 F. (-6 C.) high for today 40 F. (+4 C.) coldest day I've experienced since I left Chicago almost 14 years ago, I moved to Phoenix to get away from this! Oh well, in 6 months, it will be 115 F. (46 C.).

Bob,
I'm in the valley here with you and when I looked at my highly accurate, hardware store, spring activated, kokopelli thermometer out on the patio I couldn't believe my eyes. 24deg at 8:30a. I thought for sure it was broken. Then I ventured out for the morning paper. Yikes! I have been in the valley for 11 years and can't remember it ever being this cold! Made me feel like I was up in Flagstaff. Good thing there is no moisture, can you imagine what a couple of inches of the white stuff would do to traffic here? Is Sky harbor even equipped to De-Ice planes?

Rich, it's up to the individual air carrier, to de-ice their aircraft, and at best my employer Southwest could de-ice about 40 aircraft ( heavy frost or light snow) before the glycol was depleted.

MrRiden,  we just got our 'big boxer' in July.  That was one of the draws...know all about them boxer engines!   [smiley=happy.gif]
