Title: Yearend Mileage Total
Post by: Bob_Roller on December 31, 2006, 07:09:50 PM
I rode the R65 3,000 miles and the R1150R 5,000 miles in 2006. That's pretty pathetic for a rider that can ride all year long ! Hopefully 2007 will see an increase in riding activity.

Well,  I managed to push Britta just over 10k miles for 2006.  I wish I had gotten her clutch and carbs fixed earlier, 'cause I probably could've added at least another 2k on to what I had.  She sat on the bench for about 8 weeks during the year due to these problems.  But at least she's running strong now!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

8,200 on the R65, about 2,000 on the Triumph (that paint job ran well into the summer, when I usually would be RIDING the Triumph)  But I can't paint when it's cold.

Pretty much just commuting; I bet there's another 20,000 on my car.

i rode a total of 12,187 miles on the KZ. most of it was commuting with some long rides in there for fun. i rode to work 191 days this year. would have rode more but we had some early snow and cold weather and i couldnt get the ol kz lit up. she said it was to cold for her i guess.

plan on riding even more next year when i get the r65 done. it will become my daily runner and i might put the kz up for sale then??

For me it was a different year alright...11,675 miles total.  here's the list  [smiley=deal2.gif]
6,380 on the R1100RT
1,692 on LRB...disgusting on my part!
3,603 on the new F650GS

Everyone off the road on Nov. 26th.  Big mistake. maybe I'll join the Rounders forum and see what others do about protection from winter salt etc. Or...hee, hee [smiley=idea2.gif] [smiley=idea2.gif]  get a beater bike and practise donuts in the snow!! [smiley=evil.gif]

Probably between both bikes I combined around 8000 miles.  I only live about 15 miles from work now so the commute doesn't rack up the miles like it did when it was 45 miles one way.  Probably put 2k on the car,  I have a 5 1/2 year old vehicle and just rolled 40k miles on it.  What a wast of an exxtended warranty!  :-/

That's it Sue!  Get a bike you don't mind getting mucked up and ride it all year long!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
I didn't even track my mileage this year.  It wasn't much on the R65, though.  [smiley=cowsleep.gif]

We took the Laverdas to the mountains and left them there for the summer, so most of my riding was on the Ghost Strike this year.  And the weather has been SO GREAT this winter, so far...
Next year will be better for the beemers as we'll rack up some miles on the trip up to Nova Scotia.  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Unoffically - I started the year at 55146 and ended at 72105 for a total of 16959 miles - a good year! :D

I forgot to mention, that I rode one of my bikes to work EVERY day in 2006. I guess that's not too much of an accomplishment, seeing as I do live in Phoenix! I'm only 90 days away from the 2 year mark, since I drove one of the cars to work.

My goal is at least once per week, though I think that will have to be interrupted for a while.  I hope that's not a CRX that you're neglecting!   :D

Well Ed, the CRX only had 3300 mi (5300 km.) put on it in 2006. But it got a good thrashing in October, found some great roads in eastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico. I wore 1/4 inch (6mm) off of the Yokohama AVS tires in just 1200 miles (1935 km.). Did I mention that I couldn't get the grin off of my face for a week after that! Did I also mention that I needed a new set of tires after that little adventure!

Your car is going to last for ever at that rate, if you can keep it from rusting out.  Shouldn't be a problem where you live.  Yeah, it's sad but my crx can out corner either one of my bikes.  I just need to quit hauling so much loose junk in it.  I'm surprised that you didn't need bailed out!

Ed, the roads that I was on had Darwinian Theory written all over them: stupid animals die first! Arizona 191 formerly known as Arizona 666 the 'Devil's Highway' from accounts with co-workers that have ridden and driven both, that the Tail Of The Dragon in North Carolina, pales in comparison to the Devil's Highway in Arizona. It was a 3 hour drive that you could never let your guard down on what was going to happen next. No law enforcement was visible the entire drive, if you went off the road and didn't start a fire in the ponderosa pine forest, it could be years before you would be found! I could never ride any of my bikes as I did that little CRX, I doubt I could drive my Z-3 as hard as I did the CRX. It's really a well balanced machine.

Aïda!!  You're going to Nova Scotia [smiley=clap.gif]  You'e going to love the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton!! Brother Rich lives in Baddeck and if he's around I am sure he would appreciate a visit! He's got the K75C and a Kawasaki Nomad. He'd probably show ya around too so you can take in a bit of the local culture [smiley=1drink.gif]

Lots of ceildh's too if you like the celtic music!  Pronounced kay-lee.  I cannot find how to spell that properly and it is awkward but what it is is a group of good fiddlers with a piano and sometimes pipes get together almost anywhere to have what is in essence a kitchen party with music. They usually use small halls anymore as it is a tourist attraction. Rich's lady friend is a Cape breton Fiddler so there is music in her home anytime.

Maybe we can meet ya there! About 1500 miles away from me here though.

Well, I'm kinda disgusted with myself - only about 2000 miles on the Concours for the year, and
about 1400 miles on the little R65 - it would have been over 2000, but the clutch/transmission
problems (which I still have to fix) brought an earlier end to the BMW's season...  Well, winter time
is for tinkering and fixin'  !

Yeah Sue, would love to catch up with you when we head that way.  Maybe we could find a midway point that would work for both of us.  We still need to figure out the details...when, how, where, passports, etc.  I know we'll be on the beemers and I like to stay off the super slabs.  I've been to Nova Scotia once back in the 80s, but Graham has never been.  We'd love to have some local input on what to see, etc.   I was planning on posting a thread the closer we got to the trip to see what kind of input I can get from anyone.  You have a suggestion for best time of year to head that way?

Another New Years Resolution:  meet more R65.org members!  8-)  (oops, wrong thread)

I did just under 1500 miles on the R65, but it was in many pieces and parts, scattered all over for about four months while the sidecar was added. Much of that time was waiting for the machine shop to finish the sidecar triple tree. Seems there is more money in oil field parts that motorcycle parts.........so I waited. All 1500 Miles were with the sidecar mounted. Is a bit early to tell but other than cutting down on speed, the sidecar has had no other effect on the R65.  Well, in the handling, you have to push the handle bars around instead of leaning. At first it seemed like it took a good bit of force to steer but now I don’t notice it at all. Can’t  say I find pushing to steer any better or worse than leaning to steer, just different.  Have a R27 and enjoy riding both about the same when solo. However, throw my grand daughters into the mix and I find the sidecar hack is a hoot. Being an old, retired fart I don’t tend to rack up a lot Miles. Certainly don’t have to do anything as distasteful as riding it to work. Happiness is riding to the grocery and picking up a fresh supply of beer. The sidecar will hold a surprising large amount of beer, dog food and pizzas, the essentials of life. Looks to be a great new year! Hope it is the same of the rest of ya’ll.  :)

Sounds like a capital way to rack up some '07 mileage!

It was at Ken-in-Oklahoma's little get-to-gether last May that put me in touch with my Celtic side.  One of the regulars there has brought his small pipes at least twice now, that I know of.  Mesmerising.

Here's my brother Rich's advice for Aïda about when to go to Nova Scotia and specifically Cape Breton:

Well,  the traffic has never been a problem once you get into New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

The Bike stuff usually like this:  June July  Charity Runs then July  has the races and  Club Rallies,  Aug is just a the same.
For Non Bike stuff.  June July has the Lobster stuff.  July/Aug the music festival.

I think Aug is a good time to come   the Weather has settled
Our July's have been wet ltely and June is terrible.

I think they should get the Motorcycle Tour Guide Nova Scotia.
www.motorcycletourguidens.com
Its the best. and gives all the other things going on in each area in Nova Scotia.  And its FREE.
Also check out  www.novascotiabikers.com  for things happening.

So my answer is Aug so you don't miss anything.

3500 miles or 5631 kilometers.

One of my best years in a long time.  I am hoping '07 will be even better, if I don't have to take 6 weeks off for a busted shoulder this year!

THANKS to you and your brother, Sue!  Great info!  I've ordered up my Motorcycle Tour Guide and will visit the website.
I'll keep you posted on our plans.

Pass my thanks on to your brother Rich.   [smiley=dankk2.gif]

Cool.  I think I look in Mapsource to find and make a note!!! :D

Hey Bob - Did you meen US191 in Greenlee County between the towns of Clifton and Alpine?  Eastern Arizona? [smiley=tongue.gif]

Bill, that's the one, at the south end of the drive, between Clifton and Morenci is the Phelps-Dodge open pit copper mine. They turned a 6,000 foot  (2000 m.)high mountain into a big hole in the ground. There's about a 9,000 foot (3,000 m) elevation change in that ride between Clifton and Alpine, most people can't believe that they are in Arizona when they get into those mountains. One of the better kept secrets for motorcylists here in Arizona.

"...at the south end of the drive, between Clifton and Morenci is the Phelps-Dodge open pit copper mine."

Those aerial images (like on MapQuest) are amazing for stuff like this.  Thanks, Bob!

It looks like Hwy 88 just east of Phoenix is interesting, especially past Tortilla Flat!  (I dig dirt and gravel, as long as I don't have to have a shovel in my hand!)

I've been taking a little virtual tour of your town, looking for your place of employment.  I see you have a race track on the south side, and the GM proving grounds looks neat!
My best guess is Williams Gateway Airport?

Rob, are you using something like Google Earth?  I have it on my work computer with high speed internet, but minimal RAM.  My computer at home is pretty fast, but I have dial up internet.  What I've seen of it is really cool though, like flying.

Rob, I work at Phoenix Skyharbor Airport, about 9 miles (15.5 km) north and about 18 miles (29 km) west of Williams Gateway Airport. GPS co-ordinates of Skyharbor is 33 degrees and 26 minutes north and 112 degrees west, my residence is at 33 degrees 22 minutes north, and 111 degrees 57 minutes west. There are an immense amount of dirt roads here in Arizona, that lead to some pretty interesting places. About 40 miles (65km) southwest of me, you can still find the Butterfield Stagecoach Line trail that will take you all the way to San Diego. Except for the crossing at the Colorado River!

I have Google Earth on my computer at home, but these days I have more time to "ride the forum" at work,  ;D but I am too new here to go doing things like downloading programs onto the PC.

Google Earth is a VERY COOL program, for those of you that have not seen it.  Some of the best images available, along with neat tricks!

I was perusing AZ with Mapquest last night.

I never would have thought to look in the middle of the city!!!

What is the strange triangle NW of town?  It is right off of W. Patton Rd.  You guys got some weird stuff out there!

And just west of that, there is what I guess is another testing facility.  But just north of it, the entire area is laid out in a grid of some sort.  Ex-military?

Rob, the triangles are military auxiliary emergency landing fields, Luke Air Force base in the western suburbs, is one of the largest fighter aircraft training bases in the US. There's another triangular landing field just south of Gila Bend in the Barry Goldwater Gunnery Range. As far as the other facility, I'm afraid that I'm not familiar at all with that area .There's alot of unusual things out here, if you're a car fanatic, you would have a field day with all the auto manufacturers hot weather testing that's done here, I've seen cars that I have never seen before , or since, all with auto manufacturer license plates from Michigan.
