Well, the wife needed some stuff from the grocery store, so I took that as an excuse to fire up Britta and take her out for a brief New Year's Day ride. No, it wasn't much, just a few miles, just enough to shake the cobwebs off her carbs (it had been raining here for the past three days, so she's been covered up). But the temps are in the upper 50s, so it was worth it to get away from watching the bowl games and go out for a few.
Got to start the New year out right, ya know! ;)
What about you.... Did you get out for a few on your ride?

Now you're just being mean! Last ride was on Saturday.

All right, Dirk!!! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] A group ride!!!
I decided that a three mile ride earlier just wasn't enough for today, so I went back out this afternoon for another scoot around town. This time, Britta and I got in about 30 miles out in the outskirts of town, just cruising leisurely, enjoying the first sunshine in about three days! 8-)
My riding buddy, Chris, who has a 1999 Triumph Trophy 1200, invited me over to his house tomorrow, saying we'd go out for a ride after he changed the plugs on his bike. I have to go back to school on Wednesday, so tomorrow's my "last chance" for some fun! I guess I had better get my sorry butt out there and get in some miles! ;)

Great pics, Dirk, you guys really know how to do it up!
After a 2 day rain, the sun came out today and it jumped to 60 F, so I took another quickie ride up to "Mayberry" and "Mt. Pilot".
That's a great trip, highway up, backroads down, with a few twisties thrown in the mix too, all in about an hour or so. ;)
-
It was 70 degrees at 7am in Charleston, SC this morning.
Made it from there to Atlanta in just under 6 hours with about an hours rain along the way.
Great way to starta new year....

Nope. Maintenance window has closed. Must perform maintenenace on R65 before attempting to garner further Airhead Awards and Accolades. :-/

Yep! ;D Mid to high 50's in the afternoon. Too good of a day to not go out. It sure made my day.
Went up Hwy 101 to Cloverdale and then back roads all the way back. Some of those little valleys were in the shade and pretty cold and damp, but the day was absolutely beautiful and clear. The vineyards are all dormant right now and the rows of vines make a nice pattern on the valleys and hills with the green evergreens on the hills around them.
It was nice to smell the fresh air and be in the sun. [smiley=grin.gif] Lots of others out riding their bikes today too.
Dirk, those pictures are great. You guys know how to do it.
Back to work tomorrow. :(

[smiley=wall.gif] I'm so envious of all the great rides today!!! [smiley=steinigung.gif]
I just hope the weather keeps up so I can partake once I can breath again! [smiley=embarassed.gif]
I'm spending my day [smiley=zzz.gif]
NC Steve - that is a great ride. I wish I was closer, but it's about 3 hours for me to make it over that way. I love those road, though. Real close to Willville!

400km's for me this New Year.
Been a little bit rainy in this part of the world but I'm not complaining. Lets me pretend there isn't a drought, for one day at least.
It is summer here though, so not quite the challenge to get out there aas some of you have....
-
I got my first ride of the year in at 3am into work (38 F, 3 C.), but a nice 70 mile (110 km) ride when I got off of work at 4:30 pm (60 F, 16 C.).
-
Hey Aida, hope you're beginning to feel a bit better! [smiley=zzz.gif]
I've got a sister who lives down your way, in Cary, and I keep meaning to go visit via the "back roads" over Jordan Lake, if they still exist.
Once upon a time, before the advent of RTP, you could leave Greensboro on 421, cut across at Siler City and thru Pittsboro, and ride for miles unmolested thru the National Forest surrounding Jordan. It's been years since I've been down that-a-way, though, so Cary and RTP may have swallowed it all by now. [smiley=tongue.gif]
-
Steve,
It's not completely swallowed up yet. But there's a better route than 421 to 64, which is now mostly 4-lanes. [smiley=uhoh2.gif]
You can go south out of the Greensboro BMW store to Hwy 62 and meander thru Liberty on old 421 take a left and follow the Liberty-Silk Hope road over to 87 just north of Pittsboro. It's much like the old Greensboro Hwy that runs between Chapel Hill and Greensboro. It's still pretty around Jordan Lake, but it's not two-lane anymore!! There's even a by-pass around Pittsboro. :-/
Let me know if you ever decide to head over this way.
-
Will do, Aida, and thanks for the roads update. I kinda figured Cary had eaten at least some of the Jordan Lake area. :'(
I've been meaning to get to Raleigh and check out Capital, and was recently in Wilmington and tried to get by Cape Fear BMW but never did. Want to get to Jacksonville also, to Back Roads Triumph, and check those and the Guzzis out too.
If it doesn't soon turn winter around here, I may declare it "Spring" and hit the road in earnest!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
