Has anyone out there tried a Dyna III ignition kit on their R65?? If so...how do you like it? Was wonder how it compares to a Omega system. I know the Omega fires off the crankshaft....while the Dyna fires off the cam......but I am not enough of a mechanic to know which would be better......any ideas.

From everything I have found the III will not work on a R65. I do have one on my R90/6 and it has been installed for 20 years with out any problems.

From what I've deciphered, the Dyna III requires a points plate to work, and as it's no improvement over the stock Hall trigger Beancan (mechanical advance, cam driven, no redundancy) gives no real advantage, so why make one I suppose. The Omega on the other hand adds redundancy, crank firing and electronic advance.

I put the Omega unit on my R75/6 and am very happy with it. The PO snapped the end off the old points unit and welded it so it would work. The Omega mounts to the crank shaft so I did not have to mess with the old points. They remain so I do have them as a backup. My R65 still uses the bean can hall sensor but if it ever needs replacing I would go for the Omega.
