Hi all, The front left caliper decided to stay on yesterday. After 1 minute cooling (wasn't that hot at all) it freed and I drove home carefully.
I had the pads out recently as the brakes were very grabby. Just a a bit corroded. Worked fine until this. I had not noticed this before...

And underneath the mysterious plastic cover?

Manky bolt.
I have some rebuild kits on the way as I was going to strip and clean the calipers. Bernie (the bolt) is obviously going to have to come out so I can see what lies beneath. Like a Mumbai street meal, you won't know until later.
Has anyone used the repair kits that include a drill, tap and new nipple and carrier? I would normally replace the caliper, but they are very expensive and/or not available.

A Brembo FO8 used on a motoguzzi will work just fine
It has a 38mm piston instead of the 36mm used originally
Very responsibly priced around 110 USD here in the states
I have been using one for over 40K miles

I freed everything off and put a 0.35mm drill through the return orifice in the master cylinder. The slave cylinders all look good, but the master cylinder bleed hole was definitely blocked.
Master (15mm) rebuild kit on way. Calipers freed and cleaned (as far as they would go without popping out) and actually pretty clean. The gunged MC I think was the real problem.
Much nicer brakes now. Not on/off like before. That left caliper is coming off when I see either 38 or 36mm at a reasonable price though. Guzzi alternative duly noted!
Got knee out with panniers full of shopping for my mum today. The few peds in town gave me a funny look i.e should that big blue thing be leaned over like that???
