Title: rear brake shoes pivot pin

My rear drum brake shoes have a pivot pin (not the cam) with a thin (2 mm? thick) hex head.  Is the pivot pin a threaded bolt that can be removed by rotating with a wrench?  Don't want to force it until I am sure that's the proper way to remove it.

Is there a drum brakes thread on this form?  Thx

It's a threaded hex head bolt, it's probably never been removed since the bike was built .
It may prove to be difficult to remove, I would use a box end wrench or a socket not much of a bolt head to be wrenching on .
Curious as to why you are removing it .

If I were to install the wider top hat spacer to get more tire clearance(I took mine off and went back to the 4.00)
I would also add a 2mm shim under the pivot to get the shoes back onto the drum all the way

Rather than creating a new thread I thought it prudent to post here. I am taking the rear brake apart and am wondering whether the rear brake lever is stock. The pivot is held in place with a key and the lever is fastened with a 5 or 6 mm hex bolt.

That's what I thought. Thanks. Now I have to source not only the pivot (cam) pin but also the brake lever and barrel (to hold the brake bar). The pivot is no longer being made and I've been unable to locate one. The hunt is on!

Hello,
The BMW Classic parts shop list the brake cam as availlable (P/N 1454836)  for around 74 Euros.
Not cheap, but ...
You should try to ask your dealer to search a little bit harder..
The brake lever is also said to be availlable for a little 71 Euros...

Thanks George. I found a few on ebay after cross referencing matches with other models. The brake lever and pin can be sourced from much older models so that shouldn't be a problem cost wise. I'm amazed at the differences in price though. New levers can be had for as little as 40 euros to as much as $110 US. Shopper beware!

I think the cam profile is different regarding bikes and their age.
So get one from an R65 if buying second hand.
I would buy a new one from BMW if I where in your pants...
But YMMV ....
