Hello all. I am trying to return a recently purchased '87 R65 to stock. The previous owner painted the entire bike in a glossy grey colour. To the best of my knowledge the headlight pod (bucket) was originally a matt black with a grainy texture (so, not glossy). Were the ears the same or glossy like the frame?

Sorry cant help with the question
But I am curious what the R65 looked like in gloss grey
Do have a picture you could post upĀ :)

Nope, sorry. The grey didn't look too bad but it had a hammered look to it. I'm not sure whether this was intensional or whether it wasn't cured properly. Regardless it wasn't stock and my intention is to return it to its former glory.

I just googled images for the bike and it looks like most(if not modified) are black like the frame.

Headlamp shell would have been the grainy matt you mention but ears should be semi gloss same as the frame.

Thanks. That's what I figured and sort of saw in a few images. It's tough to spot such suttle differences in images on the net. Thanks again to both of you.

Thanks to all. I went with a satin/semi-gloss look like the frame.
