According to the Motobins site, if you use the filter strainer part number 98720, the fibre washer is not needed .
From what I can remember on my red LS, the base of the strainer is the gasket / seal .
Motobins part number 98562 the fibre washer, it states in the description of the part that it is not needed with 98720 .

I understand that the one piece filter does away with the separate washer and I just assumed that it was like a crush washer. But then I wondered about resealing if you need to open it up to clean it (or whatever).
A guy in one of the FB groups said it is reusable but I was still wondering how. I guess it doesn't deform, or is the built in washer made of fiber or something?
Just curious.......

I think it is a rubber like material that's molded onto the filter screen base .

That would make sense, Bob.
I've got one on the way from Motobins so I guess I'll know for sure this coming week.
