Title: Strobe Timing

Hi again - I'll be strobe timing the motor soon - ish. I have the thumb screw that will lock the throttle open at specific revs so that will be easy.

My question is ……

Do I need the motor warmed up to do this - like the carbs - or can it be done by letting the motor run for a minute or so to let it settle while the bike is stationary? I have two pedestal fans to blow on the cylinders while I do this.

I'm a bit loath to take the bike for a full 25 kilometer run to warm it up fully as the timing is only approximate at the moment.

Operating temperature is always best, but if you run it long enough so it is stable you will probably be OK.

The trick is to leave one of the beancan "ear" bolts quite loose and then tighten the other up just enough so that you can overpower it and alter the timing.

Ignore the idle timing and look for the revs when your advance is "all in" and time it to that.
