Title: Torque valúes for 1979 R65
Post by: Jschara on June 15, 2019, 04:37:32 PM
Can anybody confirm if these settings are right.

Drive shaft bolts 32NM
Swing arm pins 10NM
Swing arm nuts  105 NM

I got these from Chris Harris's Utube site.   I don't have a shop manual for my bike and I don't trust the Clymer 500-1000cc Twins 1970-1982 manual that I do have.

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Am I the only one out there that is concerned about torque?

The BMW shop manual I have, shows 27+3 ft lbs for the 12 point driveshaft bolts .
Tighten the pin to 15 ft lbs, then back off and torque to 9 ft lbs .
I don't know the diameter and thread pitch, so I can't look up the standard torque value for the nut .
To convert Nm to Ft lbs, Nm X .737= ft lbs .

This is from a post by Mike Valenti many years ago. He was meticulous guy so I would have no hestation in trusting the figures.  As bob said with the pivot pins go a bit higher and then back off and re-torque to the specified figure.  The trick is then not to allow the pins move while torqueing the locknuts.
