Title: Wiring up my Wixom bags
Post by: Jschara on June 26, 2019, 03:53:50 PM
Is there anyone out there who could explain (in very simple terms) how to wire my Wixom bags to the rear brake light switch?

I have a Red/Green and a Black/Green wire coming off the switch. It would be ideal if I could hook things up so the lights for the bags were on (with the tail light) and then came on when applying the brake.  Wilcom suggested using Led bulbs to ease the drain.

Any help in the form of stick figure drawings, photos, clay models or any other method of teaching would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Hmm.. If you want running lights and brake lights, the rear brake switch is not the place to splice in. For that functionality, you'll actually want to splice in at the brake light.  The brake light bulb has two filaments in it to support this functionality, and the brake light harness will have three connections (as discussed below).  If the wixom wiring harness only has two connections, then you won't be able to have both running and brake lights.

That said, at the brake light you'll have three wires, (I don't know the colors), one will be "running light positive", one will be "brake light positive", and the third will be "ground".  Some wiring diagrams have this information, or you can determine it with a voltmeter.

Green/Red is the brake light
Grey/black is the running light
Brown is always Negative or Ground
