Title: Panniers

I was going to start a thread a few weeks ago about the various pannier versions and what goes with what, but I didn’t!, so I only have myself to blame for my current predicament....

The first photo shows the rack that I acquired with the sundry (early) R45 parts that I picked up a few months ago.

The next 2 photos are of the panniers that I picked up yesterday and clearly, they mount very differently. The last photo is stolen off eBay and I assume that is the correct mount for these panniers.

I had checked with the seller and he confirmed that the panniers were original BMW and he had them advertised as being R65. When I picked them up he told me the story of how he acquired them and it turns out that they were actually from an R45.

Of course once I got them home I realised that they had no chance of fitting my rack.

The seller was a very nice bloke and he has had a string of R65’s over the years, but he should known that these were incompatible with the early style mounts. As far as I can work out, these would fit the mounts on Monoshock R65/80/100’s, as per the eBay mount? As far as I can see they didn’t make a Mono R45?

So, before I ask for my bux back, could someone please confirm that I’ve got my facts straight? And I guess the next question is if the later style mounts can be adapted to the earlier shorter twinshock subframe?

Which would mean that they were never fitted to an R45?

Any way to adapt them to the old subframe?

Well, the R65 has had an existence as a monoshock. So those panniers may actually come from an R65.
I doubt BMW made R45 in the monoshock frame. But don't quote me on that.

I doubt they could fit.  If you look at the backs of the bags you will see how they are molded to clear stuff and IIRC the l/h bag is molded to take advantage of the single-sided swingarm.

I'm sure they didn't as R45 production ended in 85.
BMW must have still wanted an insurance special so when both the 35 HP and 27HP versions of the R45 ended they introduced a detuned 27HP version of the R65.
