Title: Fuel tank level gauge

I use 1982 R65LS, which currently under recondition.
Does anyone here have made modification on the Karcoma fuel valve into type with level sensor or level switch ? So we could take this signal into electronic gauge for fuel level information or low level warning light.

Would love to have anyone comment on this kind of modification.

Just go by mileage. You should have 30 to 40 miles when you hit reserve.

Know your bike. Know how many km (miles) you can do before turning the reserve on. And if it came early, you'll know something's wrong.

A fuel level gauge would be good to have but the trip meter works just fine

I've got used to how far it will go on the 2 Litre reserve but have run out of that a couple of times. It's not a problem though as there is at least another 1/2 litre on the right hand side of the tank which can be transferred to the left either by lying the bike down or as I now do in my old age, lifting the tank and  tipping it over to the left. I don't remove the fuel hose to do this so it's an easy operation.

Glad to know a potential reserved fuel from right to left side of tank. :)
I’ve lost my trip mete (haven’t check on this issue)r, so I’m blind on the quick distance view.

Trip meters/odometers failing seems pretty common on R65’s and there are some fixes available on line.

Barry has started a thread in this section on the same issue so you might want to keep your eye on that too. Hopefully all of us will come up with a solution.

Or, you could contact Lionel Otto Instruments in Brisbane who will be happy to considerably lighten your wallet, but who do 1st class work.

Does anyone has reference what is the size of Karcoma thread to the fuel tank, and its thread pitch size ?
