Title: Side cover grommets
Post by: wilcom on December 19, 2018, 07:25:41 PM
Getting ready to order some new grommets and WHOA,,,,,, $4-$5 for each one !!!!! I'm not going to do that.

I have none to measure. Does anyone know the dimentions or a cheap after market something that will work for around a $1 apiece.

I searched and  found that georgesgiralt in 2013, "(and quite cheap, I paid 5.6 € for the whole six lot two days ago)", not so anymore, the price has quadrupled

I bought some a month ago for Motorworks in the UK for £1.1 (+ VAT) each. Part No FRA36510.

I just did! Thanks for that tip.

There was other stuff on the site that had discounted prices opposed to what I'm seeing here in the States. It won't be long until we can print this stuff(maybe now?) and be done with it and back on the road in 10 minutes.

Sorry for being late, but in France BMW sells them for 2.43 € apiece.
And they're readily available.
I do not know how this translate in other currencies, though.

That's a little lesss than $3 US which is better than the prices here but still expensive for what you're getting. That grommet probably is made for less than a dime( $0.10 US)

McMaster Carr has some that will probably fit.

Hey also stock the vibration damper parts that sit under the battery.  Fit perfect, less than half the price of BMW parts.

DeeG..... I went there and the defining measurement I can't come up with is the small inner diameter and with out a good fit there they will be rattling around.

Did you notice that all the grommets around the size we need were all under $0.50 and some down to $0.10, not the $3-$5 that BMW is trying to squeeze out of our behinds.

Reminds me of a time I was screaming in Brown's BMW at the parts counter/showroom about the price of the valve cover center nut on my R50/2. I had just paid $50 for a piston (4 VW pistons from Germany were under $50 at the time) when I remembered I needed center nut for the valve cover. He told me it was $3.75 for the center nut in 1973 money. I cringed at the price and he told me I was lucky because the ones on another bike were even more expensive. He used the wrong words at the wrong time because I wasn't feeling too damn lucky at the moment. I lost it at that point, and went to the dark side, demanding to know who was Fuxxing me, was it YOU, was it BMWUSA or was it Germany. They were glad to see me leave that day.

I guess these grommets are supposed to be glued on?  Most of my replacements (from MB no doubt) disappeared so quickly I haven't bothered again.

I like'm. Someone was thinking out side the box again, they do't have to be GROMMETS to do the job.

With these you do not have to fiddle around lining up the grove with the cover clips
