Title: clearance of packet rack and saddle
Post by: georgesgiralt on August 03, 2018, 09:24:27 AM
Hello,
I've just got a set of touring cases and the accompanying mounting racks. It was a PITA to mount because the rack was somewhat twisted, but I managed it.
I did not get the rear packet rack. So before searching for one, i would know if it will clear the OEM post 1981 saddle and permits it's opening to fetch the tools ?
I've got conflicting opinions...
Pictures of such equipped bikes will be greatly appreciated !
It is part #9 on the picture.
Thanks in advance for your help

I've wondered this as well.  I thought that it was supposed to provide the clearance and  that's why you have to get one specifically for our bikes (they appear to be set back a little more than the others but I could be wrong?).
I don't see them on ebay and those places but I'd like one as well.

Thanks Don, that's good to know.  Now if I could just find one reasonably priced somewhere.....

The standard "parcel rack" will allow clearance for opening the seat on a standard R65 such as your 1981 model.  It will not work for the LS model.

Thank you all for the answers !
I think I'll save to buy a porter which is 105.85 € from BMW including the blind plugs and the bolts and nuts...
Maybe for Christmas ??  :)
