86 R65 with 75,000 miles. I rode 10 miles to work and back yesterday and there is a very obvious 'rumble' coming from the rear driveshaft/rear - end area. I recently had it apart to lube the splines & found no apparent issues. Anyways, it's best described as if the driveshaft was only halfway engaged with the splines. It is a very obvious 'rumble', only upon acceleration or cruising (every gear). Ideas before I dive in to investigate? Thanks!

Best idea is to start disassembly from the rear ad do not stop till you find the problem.
When you say that you "lubed the splines" I assume you mean the gearbox input splines?
A rumble could relate to something you touched, or it may not, that is the problem with a verbal description of "rumble"

Seeing as you are probably going to remove the shaft and final drive, I'd drain the oil out and see if there is an abnormal amount of metal in the oil .
Bolts that hold the drive shaft to the out put flange of the transmission, possibly came out, they are difficult to properly torque, not too likely though .

One of those bolts did come out last fall! The rumble came before that rascal came out. I had used all new bolts and proper torque on reassembly. Yet, the sound has returned. Has the thing loosened again? The threads appeared good on reinstall and nothing stripped out, correct torque,etc....Fun!
